how long are cats in heat?? I posted in this in another thread..but thought I'd get my own topic started so that my name is up instead of just Jawlaw and Ansy.....anyway...anyone know? I've heard anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks.
I have also heard from about 1 to 3 weeks. I know that their first mating doesn't "take" either and that you can actually make a cat go into heat by continually scratching their back near their tail (ever notice how their rear rises up in the mating position when you do that?).
Cats get totally neurotic when they are in heat and they will do whatever means necessary to get to a mate and get bred. it's just the animal in them.
Thanks... we need more names up!!! LOL... I don't know for sure because I have always have mine spayed pretty early because they act so crazy! The first kitty that I had started this moaning and doing these weird stretching things.... I blamed my brother in law for stepping on her... I thought she was hurt. I took her to the vet and they told me she was in heat.... Man was I embarrassed!
"If your female cat does not mate, she will go into oestrus as often as every two to three weeks, for several months each year, until she either mates or is spayed. Cats as young as 4 months old can go into the heat cycle, and they should be spayed as soon as possible unless they are pedigreed and you wish to breed from them. If spaying is not immediately possible then your vet may be able to give her hormones to stop the cycle. After all, the cycle is extremely uncomfortable for her, even if it does not inconvenience you. Your cat will be in heat for one or two days, but won't really come all the way out of it until you have her spayed."

LMAO - I did the SAME thing. My cat was acting like she was paralyzed and was even letting the dog chew on her. We went to the Emergency vet at 3AM only to find out she was in heat. I felt like a dummy too....especially when I forked out the $75 bucks for finding out I had a hormonal cat!
Thanks...I found that same info...but it really didn't help much...I always had my spayed early too, but this is my daughters cat and they just moved back home....Kids!!
