A set-back with Piper....

It seems we have had a set-back with Piper.  He was doing so well but we let him out in the yard to run around (since he is immobile in the house) and now, strangely, we are having trouble approaching him again.  Normally when we let him out to play he would still come to us, but today is different.  Once we start to approach him - he runs back away from us. Why do you think he would all of a sudden have a change of heart?

Could it be that he's just decided he's not ready to come in?? If you let him be does he come up to the door at all or is he shying away completely?? If you brought out a treat and called him would he come ?

He wont even come with a treat, and no, he doesn't come to the door but he stands out in the yard and barks at the house like he wants in.  It's like he doesn't even recognize us now.  Maybe he wants to stay out and play?...lol

Is he not use to being out there and likes the new freedom? Hershey, my timid dog runs from me everytime I try to get him even if he wants to come in. I don't know why some dogs are like that. He acts like he has been beaten, but I know he hasn't been! If I will not try and pick him up or go toward him, he follows me everywhere and/or lays right beside me at all times, but let me try and pick him up and he runs... I have no idea!

That sounds exactly like what Piper is doing.  He hasn't been outside alot so maybe he just wants to stay out a while.  I guess as long as the weather is good, he can.  We'll just interact with him in the yard.  We actually found out that he loves playing ball (he just wont bring it back to us yet...lol)

He will...just keep doing it. My first schnauzer, Frostie learned right away. He would get the ball and bring it back to you every time! The 2 I have now are still learning...it is hard to teach with 2 of them because they both go for the ball and then run away. Hershey will bring it back sometimes, but Jazz just likes to chase it and then leave it there and run back to you like she really did something. She is hillarious!
