Plastic Surgery

Quick question here. What is everyones opinion on plastic surgery? I have been looking into getting a tummy tuck for some time now. Hubby says that I am crazy but I feel like if it will boost my confidence then I should do it. Ever since I had my daughter my stomach just won't go back to the way it was. (I gained 50 pounds when pregnant) And I have tried all the dieting but I just don't look the same in jeans and shirts. Where I live the surgery would cost in the 10 thousand dollar range but I feel like it would be worth it. Has anyone else ever gotten work done?

I haven't had any plastic surgery, but a friend of mine has.She is 50 and refinanced her house and had her boobs, tummy and eyes done. She said a tummy tuck is a trade off,fat for scar. She also said it was really painful. You are younger and probaly recover much better. So I say, if it will make you happy then what the heck.

I heard that tummy tucks are extremely painful. But I am pretty good with pain. Your talking to someone that had a 10 pound kid and the epidural wasn't working and someone who is addicted to tattoos. I think I can handle the surgery with no problem. At least I know the drugs they would give me would work. I think. I probabyl won't get any surgery until next year though. But I have been researching them for over a year now. Trying to find a good doctor is hard.

O.K. you asked for our opinion, right? I know you are much younger than me and I guess my age is going to show here. How do you have the money to have plastic surgery when you can't get a car financed? I hope that didn't sound rude... I am just asking.

With plastic surgery, IMO, unless you are rich and can keep doing it, it will be one thing after another...tummy tuck..then your butt will fall...butt lift...then your boobs will sag....boob job..it will be a never ending thing. LOL (believe me..it only gets worse) You have to be happy inside sometimes (It has taken me years to learn this)

Now with that said...if it is something that is so bad that it consumes your every thought.... and it really will make your life better, then maybe you should. I personally pray for guidance on things like that, but that may sound funny to some of you. I would have been the first one to laugh about that comment 10 years ago.

Seems like I remember you said that you do not get offended by things, so I hope you don't get offended by my 2 cents... You asked so I thought I would tell you what I really thought...just trying to let you think of both sides of it! :) :) :)

But hey- if you decide to do it.. I will be with you all the way!  lol

Don't worry you didn't offend me. The reason why I have wait a year or so is because by then I won't be worried about money. We talked to our lawyer the other day and the ball is moving really fast on our settlement. We are looking into getting a few hundred thousand dollars. So right now we are struggling to get a car and by then we won't have to worry. Another thing I plan on doing with some money is donating a few thousand to the Great Dane Rescue of North Texas.

Great! I forgot about that, Paige. I hope it all works out for you! And yes, if I was coming into a lot of money... I would have several plastic surgeries done!!!!! LOL

You have to do what is right for you taking everything into consideration.  One thing I want to throw out there is are you 100% sure you will not be having any more children?  Because if the possibility is there I think having a tuck now would be a waste.

I know how you feel because I was another one who didn't regain her "girlie" figure after I had my daughter.  It used to bother me a great deal but over the years I learned how to accentuate what still looked good (none of which is still there) and to buy clothing that looked still looked age & current fashion trend appropriate but which masked my belly.  I truly think tho that even if I had had the $$ to be able to have gotten a tuck I probably wouldn't have as I know I could find many other ways I'd prefer to use the money.

As of this moment I plan on having no more kids. Just more dogs. LOL!! They are easier to manage. I couldn't imagine having another Kaitlyn. She is such a diva. Sometimes I wish though that Kaitlyn had a brother or sister so I guess as long as I still wish that sometimes then I shoudn't do anything surgery wise.

Ok, i know this was discussed yesterday but i wanted to add my 2 cents also.  I know exactly how you feel cuz i still have the baby belly and i'd LOVE to get rid of it.  I'm not sure if it's streached muscles, which i heard happens a lot, or fat but i am smaller so i'm guessing it's the muscles.  As fate would have it, i will not be having any more kiddos so if i ever had the money, i'd do it in a heart beat!  Eye's first though.

Thousands for the tuck, thousands for the shelter...
Either you are rich, or you live in a fantasy world. That sounds harsh, and I don't mean it that way. I am dirt poor and can't see people spending money that way, unless they are rich... I think I would put it aside for the kids, when they need a car, and money for college, but I don't have kids, like I don't have money, so maybe I don't know what to do with either

KittysMom, I know what you mean. A year ago I would have said the same thing you just did. But as luck(or fate) would have it me and hubby are coming into a huge chunk of change. We are going to be able to pay our house off (which isn't much), buy the cars/trucks that we want, put a big amount into savings for our daughter, and a few other things. Our lawyer said that we will be set for a very long time with the money that we get. Plus Brad is going to graduate soon and the starting pay with the degree he is getting is close to 100 thousand a year. Plus I plan on going back to school and maybe getting my RN's license.

If its just a tummy tuck, then I think it will give you back what you are looking for. With having kids, the stomach muscles do get stretched. I think they have to tighten the muscles, plus suck the fat and pull down and cut off any excess skin. Oh I hear it is painfull. Geeze all that. They better give you lots of pain killers. Shoot it hurt me just having my navel pierced. Only when it started to heal, becaus the ring would get stuck to my skin and pull away. Constant cleanings.

But you have to be very careful, incase of infections and all of that.

My sister had her eyes done. I was the one to go and pick her up after the Proceedure(as they call it) I about fainted looking at my sisters. LOL. I'm not kidding. Looked like someone punched to he// out of her eyes.  Not to mention she barfed on my car door on the way home. She was all loopy from the anesthia. They should not ahve let her eat that cup of noodles, lol darn them. So she gets home and for the next few weeks is frantic and suicidal because she thinks she will look like that forever. The eyes take a few months to heal. But with her, what they did was suck out the fat under her eyes, besides the skin tightening above and below the eyes. It turned out she had these sort of bumps under her skin that she never knew existed.  So now that she had the fat removed they showed. She was a complete suicidal mess.  They had to go back and take what little fat she had in her stomach and inject it back under her eyes in certain areas to even it out. God I was hating all of that. She would come over and stand in from of the  mirror saying I can't live like this. It went on and on and on. Finally her face is where it looks normal, the scars have healed. I was so worried that it would not heal right. She made me go with her to her appoinments to tell them what I saw that might not have looked right. Most of the time she was too worried to hear everything she was being told. She looks great now, but it was an aweful road.

Best advise I can give you is to do alot of result, find out how long is normal for recovery time. Get advise on whom to go to. DO NOT JUST LOOK IN THE PHONE BOOK AND PICK THE ONES THAT ARE NICEST TO YOU please. I hear these Beverly Hills dr. are very good. If you have to hop on a plane to find a good dr. Do it. Your happiness is what is the most important.  You don't want a hatchet job.  Take your time finding your dr. Make sure he has all his degrees, is registered . I forget what the registery is called. But you can look up registered plastic surgeons online in your area. Go in there totally prepared. Don't let anything be a surprise to you.

My sister thought she would be ready to go back to work in two weeks it took about two months.
There thats what I have to say about that. And yes, I did nearly faint. She was so puffy and had bloody fluidy stuff running down her face, ICK.

Thank-you puttin 510.
I don't know much about these things, but I sure know that the money can be best spent elsewhere.
People should be more character oriented than they are. I think a person's mind is the most important thing. I think you need to do what you can to be clean and pretty, but surgery gives me the crawlies...
It is a shame people are so judgemental towards women. Bet guys are less likely to seek such extreme cosmetics...
I don't blame a person for wanting to be pretty.
I am glad you laid the reality out on the table.

Oh one more thing.  There are forums like these ones for people that have done or are contemplating surgury. Check some of them out. It really will help you know what to expect. I had to look for answers to help my sister thru her ordeal. She found out her results and time frame of healing were normal. She was not the only one going thru the stress. She is happy now, but that first month was bad.

So i hate my stomach already...and i haven't even had kids. I know it sounds super selfish...but I am so freaked out to have kids because i know it will ruin me! I have such a short torso that when i get pregnant....I AM GOING TO BE HUGE!. Plus I am diabetic...so I will probably have big babies. I have to work my butt of to stay even in a little shape...and I always feel like crap...so i hardly ever excersize. So i am going to have to say that if i had the money....I KNOW i would do it someday. I wish there was an easy way out....an easy cheap way out...

Jessica, I am not diabetic but I still had a ten pound baby. I gained a ton of weight when I was pregnant and I really didn't eat much. But I changed my sleeping patterens and the doctor told me that it made my metabolism slow down a lot. I was awake the whole night and slept during the day. And when you are awake at night there isn't a whole lot you can do. I just saw my cousins before and after pics of her breast lift and I am really disappointed in the way they look. I feel like she wasted 6 grand on nothing. Everyone was aggainst her doing it in the first place because she is 22 and she wants to have kids. Everyone thought she needed to wait until after the kids. Because getting pregnant will just bring them back down. I am just rambling now.So I will shut up.

Hey you gals. Have you ever tried the low carb way of life. I have and you do loose weight.  as with any diet, it really just needs to become a way of life. Its hard to stop eating all the junk that we were brought up on. But I have the Suzanne Somers books and the recipes are very tasty. No measuring of foods. Plus her way of eating I have heard is great for diabetics. Jessica, you should check it out. Its all about cutting out the sugars. Wether it be in cookies, cakes, alcohol, breads, rice, pasta, potatoes. all those things will make us fat. I lost 35 lbs. on it.

God, I just read this and I sound like a stinkin comercial. It does work though. Not no carb, low carb. You need the energy from the good whole grain carbs.
