I think another member by the name of Oasis might have some information for you. Maybe she will be on later or tomorrow. Welcome to the forum. How did you hear about us??

Yes, i have the breed (called Parson Russell Terriers now).  Do you have questions?  I'm usually on later in the evenings.  Also, welcome to the furum.

Welcome to the forum.  I hope you'll like it here as much as we do.  Oasis has several JRTs, so she would probably be your best source for information.  Do you have any specific questions about them?

Some of you may know me as "MericoX19" on TP.... but that site has gone to the dogs  and I think ansy's "furum" is much better....

All that anyone can tell me about JRT are that they are destructive and hyper... what are good points about this breed?

Thanks.

LOL They do! The psychos on TP keep telling me not to get one.. then when I ask them why they go on about that's what they've heard... I need some JRT owners info that really knows the breed.

Well Merico, i have 3 JRT's and yes, they are more hyper then most but not more destructive then other dogs.  A puppy JRT is going to chew and need potty trained just as much as any other pup but here are some positives of the breed:

They are very smart and usually easy to train

They are a smaller breed so easy to take care of

They are easy to groom

They are the comedians of the dog world and love fun tricks

They are adorable

They are not big barkers (i rarely hear mine bark)

They have fewer medical issues them most breeds

I have had one JRT for 8 years and we love him so much that we decided to get into the breed so that we can have pups.  We would like more people to enjoy the breed.  If you can handle some hyperness and lots of bouncing, then a JRT is for you.  They do have faults but so does every dog.  The biggest one i can think of is that they do jump REALLY high so they need a tall fence and the hyperness can get anoying sometimes but that's about all.  I love them and wouldn't trade them for the world.  Good luck, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Oh fun Merico! I must have missed that you were looking into a JRT. I have only met one in my life....but what a smart dog. She was sooo sweet too. I have heard a lot of great things about the breed. Welcome to the furum!

One of my friends had one and that was a very funny dog. He was hyper but if you put his energy to positive use then he was fine. Good luck in your search.

I know it is a strange concept...lol   all kidding aside- we are really glad you are here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you here Merico!!! Wasn't it you that was thinking of getting an australian shepherd?? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. Well, good luck in your search for a JRT. I see plenty of them on the net for like $150-400. I don't know if that's the going rate or if they're byb's or what but from what I've heard they don't have a whole lot of med. problems so I guess it doesn't really matter. Welcome to the furum!!

Welcome!

I've never had a JRT but there are quite a few of them that go to the obed. school we go to.  I think they are a wonderful breed but definitely not for a "couch potato"  The ones I have met have done great in obed. as well as agility.  And I agree that they are definitely comediens.  They are very lovable and from what I have seen form strong attachments with their humans.

It's great that you are doing research to find out if this breed would fit in with your lifestyle.

I don't know anything on the Parson(Jack) Russell Terrier...but I wanted to welcome you to the furum...I think it is good that you are doing your research on the breed before making your decision...I still think a Bichon would be perfect for you and Kiba

Shadowdog-  I don't know you and i was never on TP but i don't think Merico meant you, just some people there.  I'm glad you are here with us but unfortunately, you will probebly see posts that down TP and i hope you don't take them to heart.  I gather people got hurt on TP and that makes for bitter situations but please try to ignore the things said about them and enjoy your visits here.  Welcome either way.

You are correct oasis05. I posted a "does anyone have info on jrts" a couple of times and all I got was people basically yelling at me to stay away from them because of this and that and it was highly getting annoying.. Most of the people on that site do give good information (some even on JRT). Although I did not need name any names.... especially after that post was crossposted to TP by GHETTO.
