We got a cat about 2 years ago and was told she was spayed. Never had any kind of heat problems or anything. This is the same cat that had the lip malfunction (for lack of a better term). Well, 2 days ago she started acting all crazy..... I mean REALLY crazy. Everywhere I went she was meowing like a fool and following me. She kept hopping on my bed and I could tell she wanted me there. She would chase me down and then when I'd stop, she'd go back towards the bed while meowing and looking at me.
To make a long story short.......she had ONE kitten! We are more than a little freaked out because we already have 3 cats. My brain knows we can't keep it, but my heart feels like I'm a grandmother now. My cat is my soulmate of pets.
We never checked for spaying scars or anything, we just believed the people we got her from. I guess we should have had that checked someway. SK (Supreme Kitty) has been and indoor/outdoor cat for 2 years with no problems as far as going into heat or anything. Now, SK is just acting like the perfect protective mother and it's really eating my heart out.
Congratulations grandma! That is definitely quite a surprise. Glad to hear she's being a good momma! You are lucky she only had one kitten. I have a funny feeling that unless you find someone you are close to who would be a perfect home for the kitten you will have a new forever addition to your family.
lol....ya'll are reading my mind. I'm sure one more cat wont cost that much more.......but the three we have likes to chew on our hair when we sleep at night. They'll chew and 'knead' on our heads....lol. I can't imagine a 4th doing that!
You know whats funny......before she had this kitten she went up to the other femail cat we have and started licking on her. SK normally hates our other cats (she rules the roost here) and would hiss and swat at them. She started licking Mousey and actually bit her on the neck like she was trying to take her somewhere (like when a momma cat picks up her kittens). Mousey is almost a year old and about the same size as SK so it was quite a funny scene. That had to be some kind of maternal instinct coming out in SK.
My moms cat had a kitty about a year ago. Actually she had two but only one lived. We were so stumped when she had them because we had no idea she was even pregnant because she never was out of the house. She never even looked pregnant. Turns out when my mom was out of town my coucin who was watching the house let her out and thats when it happened. But my mom decided to keep the cat and he is something else.
Cats aren't nearly as expensive as dogs. Cats don't eat as much, and they don't need as much "stuff." Plus, kittens don't have a tendency to eat walls and large pieces of furniture as they grow. Sure, cats may have a few strange habits, but how much more trouble can one extra cat really be? Afterall, you're going to be buying food and litter anyway...

Hum So much for medical science. Sounds Karmic, keep the kitten. Maybe mom was wishing so hard she grew the uterus back, don't wanna mess w/ that Besides if you go rambo on mom and get her spayed a second time, she may not survive and you will be one less cat...
We had the other 2 cats done ourselves. So we know they are spayed/neutered (one male and one female). We are still in shock over this one though.
Kitty, you bring up a good point because we had planned ot have SK spayed (whether its the first or second time) but a second spaying could be hard, I would think. I couldn't stand to lose this cat...she has been through so much with me......it's like she can read my mind. She knows when I'm sad......strangely...because she never leaves me. Cats are one of the few animals that can sense a depressive state.
I'm gonna talk to the vet and see what he thinks. I don't know whether another spaying (if, in fact, she has already been spayed) would be harder or the risk of her having more kittens would be.
The new kitty is a female and her name is Bella. Looks like she is going to stay. Even hubby is amazed at how "mother like" SK is acting. We can't take her baby away.
Yep ansy, it sounds like you got another cat on your hands. It was meant to be. Maybe she'll be just like her mommy. Maybe it was an immacculate (sp?) conception. You never know.
