Explanation re: Homeless Dogs

There was a great deal of controversy on another forum regarding PitsandDobes' request for help for a large number of abandoned dogs. I am going to give a nutshell explanation of the circumstances in case anyone here has doubts about the legitimacy of the request for help.

I grew up in Augusta, Georgia. I went to UGA in Athens starting in my sophmore year. After meeting my husband, etc., I came home. (this was almost 11 years ago.) We had 8 dogs at the time. Because I was VERY pregnant at the time, we had to board our dogs while we got settled in our new house. The kennel I found in the Yellow Pages was a dream come true - the kindness of the staff and the love they all have for animals was/is amazing. Our dogs were boarded for almost a month. Every few days, I went to walk them and visit with them. I mentioned on one visit that I felt so bad for leaving them there so long. The lady told me that I was doing the best that I could and that I would be surprised at the people who leave their dogs to be boarded and/or groomed and then just abandon them. I was shown some examples.

Suffice it to say, we have used them for grooming, as well as boarding (the few times that has come up) exclusively. When PitsandDobes first came to Augusta running from a hurricane, there was not enough room for her dogs and ours. So we called this kennel. Not only did they make room for Pits' dogs, they stayed open until 10 pm (when they arrived) in order to receive the dogs. When Pits moved here a month after, the dogs were again boarded at this kennel.

This poor lady has approximately 30 abandoned dogs at this time. These are the ones we are trying to find homes for. For those who question why we are trying to avoid Animal Control (aka The Pound) here goes: Pits and I have been threatened with prosecution for running an "illegal dog rescue." (As if I require permission from any government agency to fulfill what I believe to be my Christian duty.) Animal Control even threatened us because we do not turn strays over to them. According to these bureaucratic imbeciles, should we come across a stray, we must "turn it in" and then we MAY be allowed to "adopt" it (by paying a fee, of course) when the animal gets to the end of its time.

Technically, our kennel lady could be persecuted for not turning these unfortunate dogs over to the county dog mafia. A kennel license is not the same as a shelter license here. We are not willing to jeopardize her livelihood, especially since she has gone into her own pocket to help these dogs.

There was an issue on this other forum about posting the name and contact information for this kennel. I am sure most reading this can understand why the lady has asked us not to post identifying information. This is the reson we refuse to do so. Should anyone want further confirmation of these circumstances, feel free to email me at dorothy@cpsabuse.org and I will be gald to provide local personal referneces. I think this should be sufficient to ease minds and maintain the privacy of a lovely family.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Dorothy

That is up to the woman who ownes the kennel. I refuse to get a license to simply preform my christian duty and help an animal in need. I have three rescues in my home now and if I wanted fifty I feel so long as they are cared for and safe then it is no ones business. Plus I am not willing to give government officials free ability to come into my home and "inspect" me. As if the USDA inspections are worth anything anyway. I'm a real stickler on my right to privacy. Many people have said "well if you have nothing to hide what is the big deal" and that is not the point. I have nothing to hide but my private life, my home and what I do is my business and no one has the right to decide for me. I should not need permission to be a good person. So long as i am not hurting anyone or an animal they have no business here.
