BAD DOG

My hubby and i made wood plant boxes a couple weeks ago to sit by the corners of our deck.  We put lots of neat flowers in the and at first they drooped but today i noticed that most of them were coming back and blooming.  I was soooo excited.  So, we were watching tv a little bit ago and piper (the pup) comes in the house from the back yard (they have a dog door) and sits next to me on the couch.  My son noticed that she had dirt on her nose and back.  I got up to check what she had been into and when i went into the back yard, clipper looked up at me from the patio and he had dirt all over his face and front paws!  He had dug up all the flowers out of one planter and dug out half the dirt!  Even the plastic liner!  Now there is dirt ALL over the deck and ground around the planter.  I said "what the *^%$?!  why did he do that?"  My hubby thinks he was after a lizard or something that must have went into the planter.  Mr.   Bad dog is spending time in his crate now!  Now we have to figure out how to keep them out of the flowers.  Sorry, just ranting

Did they give you that proud look that says, "Look, Mom, I did a great job digging up the flowers?"  I love that proud look, even though I usually hate whatever my dogs did to produce that look.

Nah. Digging is fun. I am having a heck of a week keeping up to the holes. If you want to retain something, section it off with fencing and give the dogs a certain area to run.

Ok don't get mad at me cuz they are great ideas and they work for some dogs BUT I have a hard time with digging and tried the chicken wire. It worked good for the small dogs and the pups but not for the bigger dogs. Also after a while the wire rusts and is weakend then when the dogs dig it is as if it is not there. When you try to replace it or work in the dirt you end up getting poked in the fingers and it hurts. Also it can hurt the pads of their feet.

Rambo my male pit digs like mad in my rose garden and he is teaching the puppy to do it! White pit with black paws every time he comes in! So I am searching for a way to stop them too.

Oh and the moth balls my pups try to eat so I am scared to put those out.  Plus they smell like my nana's closet and kill the smell of my flowers!

Actually, the dog is a Parson Russell Terrier so he is small.  My mom used to put mouse traps in the garden but i'm afraid if it snamps on his nose or paw, he will get hurt.  That would probebly stop him but i don't want him hurt.

For the mousetraps you can set them & then cover them with newspaper.  The effect will still be there w/o the chance of getting caught & hopefully it will scare him & he'll stay away.

One other thing I heard that I've never tried was that dogs don't like to step on aluminum foil - perhaps put some on the dirt around the perimeter of the plant box.
