Being selfish? or doing the right thing?

Many of you know that we were supposed to get Koda back in June after our wedding, due to his new owners thinking he was too big for them, we were kind of excited to have Koda back, especially since we were finally fencing the yard, etc. but now, after getting Kaia who is turning out to be an EXCELLENT dog and she is a great housedog, which I NEVER would have thought that my fiancee' would have ever allowed because he is not a dog person at all but for some unknown reason he absolutely loves and spoils her, anyway, we have been thinking that having Koda, Kaia and Kenai would defintely be too much in our small house so we had planned on keeping the two big dogs outside but we really like having Kaia in the house and of course I wouldn't want Kaia and Kenai in the house and not Koda. Plus we buy a very expensive dog food and our dogs LOVE it but with three dogs, Koda and Kaia both eat ALOT, we cannot afford to continue to get that food. On top of that, I kind of force myself to spend time with Kaia because she has to go for walks and there is no way I can take all three dogs plus my two kids for walks by myself. With Koda here, they will pretty much be stuck in the backyard.

So what should I do? Should I take Koda and try to figure out a way to make things work and sacrifice what Kaia is getting? Or should I try to just find Koda another home and continue to spoil Kaia? I am torn between what to do. I love Koda but I think taking him just to have him here would be selfish as he really wouldn't have the best life and I don't think Kaia would either. But I also told his new owners that I would take him back if things didn't work out. (Something I always say whenever I place ANY animal)

        Any suggestions?

If you told them you would take him back I think that you are obligated to do that, even if you have to find another home for him.  I am sure you would not want him turned into a shelter, or worse, given to someone that might abuse him.  Just find another good home for him, somewhere that he will be doted on and spoiled, then you can continue to spoil your girl.

I have to say I agree.  You can start looking for a great home for him now even before he returns to you.  You might even be able to find him a new home prior to June.

And I don't think you are being selfish - I truly feel you want to do what is best for all the dogs.

There is no issue with me taking Koda back at all, I will whether I kept him or not, but they have said that if we do not want to keep him then they will keep him, but my problem lies knowing that they do not really want him there. I do not want them to keep him if they feel he is too big for them (reason he is coming back), I would be concerned that he would then become a nuisance to them and of course I do not want that.

Hello...I would like to say if you feel it is a compromise to get this dog back...by all means suggest another home for him...You mentioned food, fencing being outside...I for one would hate to have 2 inside and 1 outside...and think how the one would feel...If she wants to keep him if you cant...so be it...Or if she is open to your help in finding a home for him...even better...I think the dogs quality of life is the main concern and should be have the utmost care in finding the right fit...Good luck to you...I hope it all works out for all concerned...
