On easter a rottie attacked a 3 year old boy here. I thought the story was strange to begin with because they sad that the kids were on the trampoline when the dog bite the boy. Well, yesterday I learned that the dog belonged to a lady that my mom worked with. Then I was in total shock because this dog was so good and gentle around kids. Turns out the boy was over there and didn't know the dog to began with. But he had even shared a ice cream cone with the dog earlier in the day. Well all the kids were playing chase and the boy was chasing the little girl around screaming when the dog attacked. Well to make a long story somewhat short the boy had to get 10 stiches in the dog was put down. Ijust think the dog was protecting family and thought that since she was screaming she was in trouble. So would y'all have put the dog down if this was the first time it showed any aggression whatsoever?
OMG!! That's awful!! Poor doggie. To answer your question, no, I would not have the dog put down if it was the first incident. The only way I would have my dog put down (if it was never aggressive before) would be if it was a court ordered punishment. You're probably right, the dog was just protecting the little girl, as she was screaming, he thought she was in trouble. It's really a sad story, for the little boy and for the dog and for the owner of the dog.
