Dudley is our Syrian Hamster. We adopted him from the shelter when he was 8 months old. We have had him for right around 2 years now. He was labeled and wild and untouchable. Dudley is the sweetest and most lovable hamster you will ever meet. He loves to be handled and he LOVES to be kissed on top of the head. He has been a great addition to our family. He has lived a very happy and very long life, However, lately, his stomach has been getting VERY distended and he is having trouble moving but he is not fat, his backbone and ribs are becoming more and more prominent all the time. He has started having trouble breathing so we have decided that we are going to have Dudley put to sleep. It honestly was a hard decision, but when it came down to him not being able to breath or move around, I caannot let him suffer. He has been such a great part of the family and he will be very greatly missed.
I hope he had a good life. He sure made ours fun. It will be so quiet at night without his "squeak, squeak" of his hamster wheel. (Everynight from 2 am until 4 am)
Well we just got back and Dudley is now in Hamster Heaven. He will be missed greatly and for those of you that think he was just a rodent, this hamster was loved as much as our dogs and our cats. He got attacked by another hamster at one time and we took him to the vet and spent nearly $200 trying to save him. I had to bottle feed him fr two weeks and give him medicine for four. He was an extremely sweet boy and he will be so very much missed but I know that he is not hurting anymore and I hope I did the right thing.
~Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring it was peace~
I am so sorry. Gosh how sad. I love the picture of Dudly and the cat. Way cool.
