Right or Wrong?

Many of you know that I have decided not to take Koda, well not to keep him anyway, I told his owners that I would take him back but I would be rehoming him if I did. They said they have to think about it.

Well, when I took Dudley(our hamster) up to be PTS, I let my kids go to the shelter and look at the dogs well there was a Golden Retriever/Chow mix there and so I became a safety net for him, which basically means that if it gets down to him being euthanized they will call me first but he has the same amount of time to still have a chance to get adopted. If I took this dog, provided he didn't get adopted, I am not planning on keeping him, just finding him a home. The previous owners heard about this and are now saying that this is the reason why I am not taking Koda back. They think that I have just "found" another dog. That is not the case at all. I am hoping that this boy doesn't have to come here at all, I hope he gets adopted.

Do you think there is anyway to convince them that this was not what they think at all? I do not like them talking bad about me and I do not want them to think that I "don't want" Koda. My fiancee' and I, after LOTS of talking just decided that we cannot have two big dogs in our small house and I didn't want them to have to be outside dogs.

Here is Laker, my safety net dog.........(I just couldn't let him get PTS because he is a Chow mix, not a popular breed here)

Maybe just explain to them that all you are doing is rehoming this dog.  Like a rescue kind of.  I don't know.  It's a good thing you are doing though.

He looks like another dog you had, doesn't he?
What's it their business what you do? If they don't want the dog they have, they should let you rehome it. If you wanted the dog, they would not have it in the 1st place. It is none of their business which dogs you choose to keep, nor for what reasons. Their only business is their dog, and whether they want him, or not...and that decision should not be impacted by any nosiness towards your life either.

Thanks Oasis. I have tried to explain to them but they just do not seem to get it or they don't believe me, I am not sure which. I know it is not terribly important but I don't want to ruin the relationship I have with my friends, their daughter and son in law.

Thanks Kitty,

I feel that way as well. I wish there was an easier way to tell them that exactly. Maybe I will send them a link to this forum? lol

Laker looks like alot of the dogs that we have had. He looks like Koda, and he looks like Kaia (the one we have now), he even resembles one we had a while back that was hit by a car. I really have a things for the Chow mixes. lol

Yup. You like them big fuzzy yellow ones. I bet they are adorable as pups. My mom had one come over a fence and bred one of her Labs once. 3 little fuzzies, they(the pups) were.

Yeah, I bet they would be, unfortunately, I have only seen one of them as a young pup. That was Chuka, she was about 2 months old when we got her from the shelter. The rest of mine have all been 5 months or older. Kaia was five months (still is) and Koda was 1 year. Merlin was a few years old when we had him in foster care. Here is a picture of chuka as a puppy. She was killed at 9 months old when she was hit by a car and no one stopped to help her. Sadly, she didn't die immediately and she never made it to the vet. :(

Here is her right before she died....RIP
