Question???

Gidget my lil JRT mix is now in heat again for the third time in the last 6 months.  Late September, Late December and now again. Apparently Pepper is not coming in just yet so it was Gidget that got Rusty all upset with Rambo and caused the fight. Dillon has been trying with Pepper so we seperated them but turns out that may just be a dominance thing. Gidget should not be coming in ever three months. I am a bit worried because she may have no choice but to risk being spayed and the Vet says it is really risky for her to go under for the surgery. He doesn't think she will do well. What are your thoughts on this?

A bitch coming into cycle every three months is something to worry about, there is possibility of a hormonal imbalance possibly an ovarian cyst or problem that is causing hte harmones to jump ahead of themselves. Once she is out, disucss having her spayed. Small dogs can crash pretty easily when spayed while in season since such a large amount of blood is held iin the uterus.

Thats what I was thinking. My hubby was with her at the vet the last time getting her fixed was discussed. He said the vet said she would not do well going under. If she has health issues and absolutly has to be spayed I am really worried because if what he says is true either way I could lose her. The last time she came in early she went to the vet and he said she was ok health wise and not to worry too much but just watch her. It really blows your mind when this happens. She has always been the only unaltered frmale in the house until our recent addition Pepper. And we crate her and seperate the males when she is due to come in. So Since her cycle has been regular until 6 months ago we never had a dog fight issue until now as we were always prepared.

What is even more strange is Rusty the Male Dobe is usually howling for two solid weeks when she is in season. Now he isn't he just does not want the other males near her. 6 months ago when she had her reg. Heat she came in went out and all of a sudden she started displaying signs she was pregnant. We knew none of our dogs had gotten her but what was wrong. Thats when she first went in about any female problems. Doc said not pregnant. Ok wonderful! That was when my hubby tlkd to him about spaying. Now here we are 6 moths later. I have an appt for Rusty on Tues and I am going to schedual her as well and tlk to him myself.

It sounds like Rusty has decided he's the dominant male, and he's not about to share a bitch in season. Why is Gidget such a high risk during a spay? If it was my choice and the risk was 50/50 between a reproductive problem or spay I think I would choose the spay. Three heat cycles in 6 months would have me nervous.

Rusty has always been a psyco for a female in heat. Even human ones lol. I am not dure of the exact reasons as I was not at the appointment when my hubby took her. I had to work. But I am very concerned now and I left the vet a message that I would be bringing her on tuesday. This is all together too wierd

I think Rusty is like all the males of the canine species. Our poor Sammy, with 8 unspayed females in the house. I swear he actually cries when someones in heat. As for human females in heat? Even our girls key into that. You know what they say about a dogs sense of smell. Hope you get some answers soon.
