lilgto..i need your advice

Hi lilgto..or others who care to read and respond. I am trying to make some puppy packs of information to go with the new pups I have when they are ready to go. I have 2 inches thick of lilgto's words for the day..what do you think is the most important information to send home with new puppy buyers.,..I appreciate any advice (from anyone...) I thank you in advance,...

I think the potty and crate training are very important. If they have a hard time with these, new owners can get upset, maybe yell or spank the puppies and then make them fearful or hand shy. Also, training in general. The new owners need to know not to give in, whether it be feeding times, crying at night, mouthing, etc. At the young age when they go to new homes, they are very impressionable. Let your buyers know what to expect. Many think an 8 week old should be potty trained. That's very unrealistic. They are going to be afraid and lonely at night. They just left their mother and siblings so that's to be expected. Puppies bite! Duh, they're puppies. Tell them to let them feed 3 to 4 times a day, keep fresh water.

We have one leaving Saturday. She's being picked up by the mom, daughters and the older daughters teacher. Two are flying out next Thursday, one to Phoenix and one to Kentucky.

I think it mostly depends on the puppy buyers. Have they ever had a puppy, let alone a dog before. If not, give them all you can. Suggest "Puppies for Dummies". It's a good book. If they have internet, tell them about veterinarypartner.com .

I think it would be a good idea to include something about the importance of timing when giving corrections.  Many people who've never had a dog before, and plenty of people who have had dogs, don't understand that to give a dog a correction, you need to catch the dog in the act of doing whatever it is you don't want the dog to do.

I agree with the suggestions so far.  My pup packs have all the training advice and what toys and chew bones to buy, grooming info., shot record sheet so they can keep track of them and birth info. on the pups ( number of birth in litter, time of birth, funny things about the newborn).  I also made an adoption certificate.
