McKeever doesn't have any trouble with the stand or the stay, but whenever someone approaches her for the exam, she kisses the person's hand as much as possible. My trainer swears McKeever is the biggest kisser dog she's ever met. I think the trainer may be exaggerating, but McKeever is a very affectionate dog. Of course, if she's going to overreact to being approached, I'd much rather she be too friendly than shy or aggressive.
Does anyone have any tips to get her to stop kissing whoever is examining her? I don't want her to make a lifestyle change because her overly affectionate nature is part of her charm, but I would like her to be able to do the exercise properly.

Teach her the "look at me" command, holding your hand up and rewarding her for looking up at your hand or your face, whatever you choose. When she's being examined, do the "look at me" command and that will distract her from kissing without making her feel its bad behavior.
Great idea, daisysmom. I can't believe I didn't think of using "watch" for the stand. I use it all the time before we start heeling and just to get her attention in general.
Thanks, huron. The dog in the picture is Argus, my oldest. I found her when she was a pup; someone had just pitched onto the streets.

Bait, bait, and more bait. Try bacon, or cheese. Teeny pieces. Put them to your mouth, hold them next to your face. Practise at home. Make friends be the instructor.
