Suggestion for the goverment.

I'm sure you guys heard about Jessica Lunsford the young girl that was kidnapped then murdered. Well just a week ago another young girl named Sarah Lunde went missing, her body was found yesterday. Both of these young girls were killed by sex offenders. Jessica's killer was not living where he said, he was living right across the street from her. Sarah's killer was her moms EX boyfriend, she did not know his past.

I feel that the system failed both these young girls. They are susposed to track where sexual offenders are. Here where I live which is not very far from these two, sexual offenders have to go door to door and let everyone around them know what they have been arrested for. This hardly ever happenes, I know this I have one living right down the street, I found this out by going online and looking for sexual offenders in my area. He did not go door to door like they are susposed to. Their P.O. is susposed to track where they work and where they live. P.O.'s don't even leave their office anymore. I remember when P.O.'s used to just show up at your house anytime they wanted. There are not enough P.O's to track everyone in probation. They really need to hire more P.O.'s.

Why not just take a tracker like those on house arrest and put one on every person that has ever been a sexual offender. That why they know where they are at all times. My moms susguestion was just to kill them all! I wish but that is not fair. There really needs to be a better way to track sexual offenders, odviously this way is NOT working for them. for 2 young girls to be killed less than a month apart in the same area both by different sexual offenders just erks my nerves. Really makes you wonder how safe we really are.

I like your mom's suggestions. However, unfortunately they would not do it.... what a shame. I'm for anything they need to do to keep this from happening again!

I agree that anklr bracelets is an awesome idea, but public defenders claim it 'violotes' their privacy - what a joke!

How do you differentiate between a pedophile and a young man 18 years old given jail time and labeled a sex offender for sexual relations with his 15/16year old girlfriend?

The problem is not with the Probation Officers, the problem is too much money is being spent on not correcting the problem.  Why shouldn't pedophiles think they are immune to the law, they have watched several priests for years get shuffled around from diocese to diocese and not narry a peep.  Only recently two or three priests have gone to jail for their crimes. The others have been graciously retired and the families received financial settlements.  Look at our system, look at the Michael Jackson debacle.  Regardless of guilt or innocence, Michael's relationship with young boys is inappropriate.  A 40 year old man does not need to have 7 or 8 year old playmates he stays holed up with in a bedroom for 8 hours.  However, is he really on trial or is his family? Couldn't they have found more plausible victims as opposed to a run of the mill con artist mother?

And of course, the mothers of the pedophiles claim what you have suggested ruins the chance for the pedophile to integrate into society without retribution: they can't work, they can't reside in a home.

I say sound the alarm and be careful.

This latest little girl was walking to church alone.  The girl killed last year--her stepfather didn't pick her up in time..so she walked home...I mean prevention. When are people going to get it: travel in groups, don't let your daughters walk alone.

Crime can happen anywhere.  Ted Bundy years ago broke into a sorority  house at FSU's campus and bludgeoned to death several sorority sisters.

Lock your doors.  You would not believe how many young girls are running around the mall on a Saturday unsupervised.  This DOES NOT give anyone the right to hurt them, it just seems to me every other week a child is missing. At what point are parents going to fight back with common sense and prevention?  We know evil lurks? Our society is full of different types of people from the deranged to the sane. People need to stop living in a bubble and realize this. It is ridiculous that every other month some man is able to walk into an unlocked home and steal a child out of their bed and walk out the front door. I mean come on!

Edited to say: CORRECTION--the lates victim of a convicted sex offender was not walking to church alone. She let him in the house (apparently she was home alone) and he choked her to death. He was her mother's ex boyfriend.

I think it is so sad. But it could have been prevented. I know I once looked up registered sex offenders in my city with my zip code and hundreds showed up. I also got in the mail about a year ago something that looked like a postcard that said a sex offender had moved into the neighborhood and it showed his pic and his address and reported exactly what he had been charged of. I never leave my child unattended anywhere. She is never in the frony yard without me and same goes with the backyard. And my front door is locked at all times. You just can't be too careful.

Once again, Tyson, i agree with you.  My son is never alone!  Maybe it's paranoia but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

My little brother has a friend who was 18 and with a girl that SAID she was 18 but really only 16.  Her parents found out and pressed charges.  He was convicted as a child sex offender and can't even see his own daughter!  He cannot be within 50 feet of a child and if he calls on a phone, a child can't be in the house or building!  I mean, come on, are they supposed to ask for a drivers liscence before having a relationship?  He served 3 years of jail and may not see his own daughter for at least another 2 years and only then with supervision.

I also HAD a friend that later we find out sexually abused both of his daughters and a step son.  He confessed and now he's in jail.  So like a lot of cases when it's family, it's not as easily avoidable.

My son, his father and I have had big talks about what is ok and what is not.  If he plays outside, he carries a walki talki so he can yell for help, ask me something or i can just check on him and so on.  He is a green and white belt in Karate and knows 20 different ways to break away from a stranger.

It really sucks what happened to those girls and many other kids.  I agree with Tyson......need prevention as best as we can.

Tyson, I was suggesting to spend more money on correcting the problem. They are not. Probation Officers are "susposed" to watch their people and now a days they do not. I don't know where you are but here P.O.'s used to come to your house when ever they wanted day or night if you didn't call with in so many hours you were vilioted. The number of people on probation compared to the number of probations offices is highly out numberd. Making Probations officers do what they used to would be spending money on preventing this. The goverment here is to worried about the damn Crosstown falling and people don't even drive on it yet, they would rather spend money to fix it then where it really needs to be. Granter the sherrifs here have been going door to door to all sexual offenders homes to see if they are really living there BUT there are only 2 sherrifes doing so at the time.

When it comes to a 18 year old boy with a 15\16 year old girl, to me there is a problem. If a man is 18 he has no biz with a 15\16 year old. 18 is a adult and 15\16 is still a minor. Where I live you can be arrested for this, here they think you should use better judgment which i fully agree with.  I would never let on of my sons date a younger girl after they turn 18, if her parents have just one lil issue with him they can have him put in jail, if I had a daughter I would never let her date a guy 18+ until she was at least 17.

I do not agree with any kind of sexual offender no matter what their case was. When it comes to the priests I won't even go there, that is totally screwed up no matter how you look at it they are no different than any other scum that does that. Now Jackson I think he's guility, always thought he was things just aren't right with that man.

I can understand fully on the whole 18 year old with a 16 year old. I was one of the 16 year olds that dated a 19 year old. My mother didn't care much because I told her everything. She knew if I was having sex or not and she treated my boyfriend better than me. But he was a tad bit of a suck up. He would always let her drive his Camaro Z28 to work and she loved it.

And funny all this was brought up because on the news today they mentioned that there are almost 200 registered sex offenderd in our county. And most are in our zip code or the one next to us.
