I'm really starting to HATE my job. Today a girl quit because she had to work tomorrow night yet she wrote me a note in her shift work saying that she would work 3rd shift if I needed her too. Now I have to work tomorrow! It's mothers day, Kevin the middle boy's birthday and my fathers birthday tomorrow! I'm beyond pissed right now. Everyone i've called to work their excuse is "it's mothers day" even people that do not have children and their mothers are in different COUNTRIES are giving me that excuse. I have already told them that if I have to work they might as well count that as my last day. I haven't had a day off in 3 weeks. Granted I only went in for a few hours it still doesn't matter. I refuse to work for free since i'm on salary thats exacutally what i'm doing. The owner thinks he ownes you and that you will work when ever someone calls out or gets fired. Sorry but I don't play that game I have a family and I refuse to let my job come between that. There are plunty more jobs out there!

Stormy, no matter how good the money is there are more important things in life! Your health (both physical & mental) and your family are your first priorities as I am sure you feel. It does sound like your boss is really taking advantage of you & your sense of responsibility. Being salary has its advantages but as you are seeing it also has the potential of having serious drawbacks. The stress you are feeling about your job will affect everything else as well no matter how hard you try not to let it.
I hope someone has a change of heart & agrees to fill the shift tomorrow so you can spend the day with your family.
I can relate.Every job I had on Salary i got screwed..I put in more then 40 hours and you can never get the extra time spent back out of the week as many claim. I would let the managment know your feelings and stand your ground..in the summer it will only get worse...I wish you the best...What kind of Job do you do? May be it might be time to look elsewhere...But, see what your options are where you are first..Good luck...
Family is way more important. You have to have money to live, but it sounds like you have a boss that takes advantage of you. I hope you can find something that will work better for you!

Well I worked. I was not the least bit happy all day. My son ended up with me the last 3 hours. My mother is in Reno and she's usually the one who watching him with i'm at work and hubby's at work. I called and told the owner and he was to happy about it, and thats when I told him AGAIN that's the reason why I can NOT work after 4pm. He didn't want him to come but I told him he had 3 choices 1. I close the store and go home. 2. My son can come. 3. He finds someone in a 1\2 hour to come work the store. Well guess what he choose! I didn't say anything to him but, when my supervisor come back Thurday from her great grandsons funeral I will be letting her know that 1 or 2 things will happen. Either I get more pay or i'm leaving. Most likely i'll be leaving he hates to pay people, he wants to run a biz but yet he doesn't want to pay people. He's not a very good biz man at all. I could go on for hours but i'll shut up know.
Nothing had happened yet. My supervisor doesn't return til Thrusday. I'll be talking to her then. I can't stand the owner and I choose not to talk to him if at all possible.
