I had no idea. We fertilized the grass and did not keep them off. Did not even cross my mind that it could be harmful. They are both still happy and healthy, though. Surprising, with my luck.
I have never even fertilized my grass. I don't need to. Some weeks I wish it would die. Too thick. But my inlaws usually wait about 24 hours before they let their dog out.
