crazy fools at my vet office

I took Manson for a checkup today. We had an emergency vet visit 10 days ago when his eye was bitten and it was time to just have the vet look and see if the scratch on the eye had healed nicely. Which it did.

When we came out of the exam room, a tiny brown poodle ran right up to Manson. Now, Manson happens to be friendly toward other dogs so long as they don't live at his house. But there was no way the poodle's owners could have known that or had any idea what dog might have walked into the waiting room! Plus they didn't know if maybe Manson could have had a contagious illness.. after all, he WAS at the vet. The poodle had run into the hallway and greeted on the way out of the exam room door. The owners were sitting in the waiting room. I couldn't see them at all when I raised my voice and said "somebody come get this dog! Pick it up or put it on a leash!" Only then did one of the owners casually get up and get the dog.

THEN, while Manson and I were waiting to check out, they let it wander right back over to us, unleashed, while they were calmly seated. Again I said "Get your dog. My dog doesn't know him and if he bites him your little guy will be seriously hurt. I am not taking that chance!" So they casually went walked over and picked him up AGAIN.

I commented about it to the person working at the desk, who saw it all, and she said that it has happened before, not with that particular dog, but someone had let their dog run free in the waiting room. It ran up to another dog and was bitten and had to have stitches in its face.

I love my vet office but I am considering writing a short letter suggesting that they REQUIRE all dogs to be leashed in the waiting room. I need to find out if this is a company policy already and maybe my particular office doesn't know or doesn't enforce it, or if there needs to be a new companywide rule. It is a large chain, Banfield.

Some people just have no brains at all!! I would never let mine all run loose like that. That's just plain rude and stupid!! Some people just weren't born with that thing that most of us were born with..............you know...........................common sense!! LOL

At our vets office, it says "All pets must be on a leash" I'm assuming that must just be dogs. I carry my cat in there wrapped in a towel, she wouldn't like a crate...Anyway, while we were paying at the desk for an x-ray or surgery for her, this guy came out with his toy poodle and it wasn't leashed. It didn't cause any trouble and she was wanting to be held cause she was soo spoiled. Sophie is leashed in the office but if any dogs get too close, she growls at them. One little boston came to close and Sophie would have hurt him, they didn't even tighten the leash they had on him/her. I got her to calm down so I didn't say anything. Joe loves everyone, sometimes males, so I'm not worried about him.

I would worry about Chopper being around other dogs he finds "threatening". He doesn't like it when strange dogs come up to us. I think he thinks he is protecting me. I don't really think he'd ever do anything, but you just never know. Better safe than sorry, I say!!

Yep ours too, has a sign in the waiting room. Only people that actually spend time with their dogs and know the dog language understand the whys of leashing them and yes that for their own safety too. If you love your dog leash it. Just cause you think your dog is sweet doesn't mean everyone else will. Other dogs included. Its just like humans, we need a good amount of time beofre we let someone up in our personal space, strangers will possibly get hit. LOL

I recall a lady at a dog specialist waiting room telling me of a little poodle getting mauled in the waiting roo, because of someones big dog getting to close. The little one was not to blame in this case.  The poodle was not able to be saved.

At the place I take Oscar all pets have to be on a leash. Even cats. If not they need to be crated.

At my vets it is mandatory that all dogs be leashed - no exceptions.  If someone comes in with a dog off leash one of the girls at the desk will immediately hand them one and advise them to use it.  I agree - too many dog owners don't use good common sense!

omg, people like that tick me off.  we've had that happen a couple of times at our vet office.  also once before with a ferret too.  i was in there with sandy and some lady put her ferret down and let him run on the ground, he scared sandy and she snapped at him and the women freaked.

i hate when people let their kids and other animals come running up to me and sandy without saying anything first.  i got mad at some lady the other day because her children came running up and started petting and grabbing at sandy.  i was just like jeesh, ask first! some people!
