Hey Paige- I saw a Great Dane puppy last night at the baseball game. It was only 8 months old and it was HUGE! It was the orange/black brindle color. He was so handsome! He was well behaved but when he did try and jump on someone the owner could not handle him...lol
I don't know how much he weighed but he is going to be so BIG if he is not at fully grown yet and I doubt he is at 8 months.
I know when Oscar turned one he was already 150 pounds. Now he is 160 so in the past two years he hasn't changed much. I remember the first dane pup I saw I thought was huge. But now even Oscar seems small to me. I can't wait to get my next puppy. And I know with Oscar he was a perfect angle when we were in public. With these dogs you really need to get teh into obediance as soon as you can. You don't want a full grown Dane to be the boss of you.
Sandy, here is a great website to learn about Danes. http://www.danesonline.com I have learned tons of stuff from there. They also have a discussion board too.
I have a friend that has a great dane and an english mastiff. The great dane's name is Morgan and she only weighs about 110lbs. They said she's an extremely picky eater, only can eat certain things, otherwise she gets sick. Poor thing!! She's so skinny though. I can see all her ribs, but I do know that they feed her all she needs and she doesn't gain weight, nor does she eat all the food they give her though. Wonder why that could be?? The mastiff, Tank, is a great eater and probably weighs at least as much as Morgan and he's only about 8 months old, she's 3 years!!
Mollie, have they tried putting her on a raw diet? I know of some danes that were extremly picky and once they went raw they gained weight. And a quick way of weight gain would be Satin Balls. I don't know the recipe but they can pack the weight on.
Maybe I'll suggest that to him when I see him next. Things have been real busy here lately and don't know when I'll get to talk to him...........he's in Omaha. Thanks for the info though!! I hope he won't get offended by my telling him what he should do with his dog.
