I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is normal. Bacon my 15 week old chi's coat is changing colors. I know that this normally happens when they lose their puppy coat. But see I've never seen a dog go from dark to light. On the back of Bacon's neck his coat is changing from dark chocolate color to light tan and white. It is quite strange. I know some dogs get white or gray as they get older but Bacon is still a puppy. I am so confused. I tried to take pictures but they didnt really come out because of the flash. Thanks!
i wish i knew what to tell you but i dont know much about chi's . i know when i was young my mom bought a silver poodle from my aunt. it was black as a puppy ,but it did turn silver as it started to get older.
I don't know about chi's, but I would think this is normal since it is normal for some other puppies. My min. schnauzer has some light grey color now. When she was younger she was totally black with a little white on her chest. She is not even a year old yet.
I don't have a clue about Chi's either but I had a dog whose majority of her puppy coat was black. As she got older she lost that and was mostly tan with a little black.
Chi's will change color just like other breeds. It is so hard to tell with puppies what their color will be in maturity. I think sun bleeching is possible too.....not sure.
