I have asked this before, but it is time to buy again and I can NEVER remember what everyone else does.
My vet gave my dogs Tri-Heart Plus (Ivermectin/Pyrantel) for heartworms. It is time to renew and they no longer have the Tri-Heart Plus. Now they have Iverhart Plus and it costs $29.35 for 6 months and you get 7th month free.
On drfosterssmith, I see I could get 6 month of Tri-Heart Plus for $11.93!! which is quite a bit of difference, but my vet will probably not fax them a prescription.
What do you get? What do you pay? Should I fight with my vet for a prescription?? What would you do?
wow ! that IS a big difference. i would make a copy of the cheaper price and show it to the vet and ask why you cant get the better price. especially if it is the same stuff. i paid 38.00 for the puppy advantage flea tubes and my sister bought the exact same stuff at the feed store for 22.75. thats a big profit margin ! lol
my normal vet will not budge...But he sent us to an orthapedic vet when our male hurt his back leg and he thought it was a ACL tear..and might need surgery..well the other vet didnt think it was..and gave a RX...and Sam is once again fit as a fiddle..But I didnt ask him if he had multi dog discounts for flea care and heart worm..he said he did..but I have to get them in very soon...So..if you get any where with your vet...let us know and we can all ask our vets for the RX to save some money. I have too darn many pets to not care about the difference...profit is one thing..but rape is another...let us all know..please
Vet does not need to fax, I think. Call F&S, ask what they require. Maybe they get verbal permission, or a written slip is fine. Last time we were at a vet, the vet gave a prescription to my mom[for lots of dogs-just on her word]. It was on paper. I would call the vet, tell them you want to buy over the internet, and want his approval for the purchase. It is so commonplace that he must get those kinds of requests. My dad taught me it never hurts to ask. Call other vets and clinics in your area, you would be surprised at the price differences out there. If the vet has already prescribed ONCE for your dog, he has no excuse to not give permission, as he has already examined the dog...
An update. My vet said that if I brought in someone else's price, they would match it. However, they will not write a prescription for someone else to fill. That's fair. Makes me feel much better about them! I don't need it yet...
Wow!! Just for Chopper's heartworm med, it's like $77.70, for Mollie's it's $71.70!! That's for 6 months on Revolution, plus you get the 7th month free. And I think my vet has the lowest prices. At least they did for Eli's arthritis med. Another vet told me that my vet gave me those meds for HIS cost. I don't know if that means he does that with all meds though. Who knows.
