I use to go out with them each time that I took them out to potty. I did that so I could make sure that they really went potty. Now, I would really like to leave them outside for a few minutes from time to time...especially in the pretty weather. However, my bratty one, Jazz, just stays at the back door, scratching and yelping! That loud schnauzer yelp! lol My sweet Hershey just stays out there and makes no noise and causes no trouble...lol
Will she quit doing it before the neighbors get mad at me? Do I just leave her out there and let her cry it out? She LOVES being outside...more than Hershey does, but she wants me to be there...or back in the cooler days, I was leaving the door open so she could run in and out and she likes that. I know. I know. I need a doggy door, but getting my husband to do that is going to be hard. He doesn't want a doggy door for whatever reason. I will probably talk him into it before summer is over, but for now, what do you suggest?
I will not leave them for long periods. It is too hot, but every once in a while would help!
harley, our gsd does the same thing. lol . i dont leave him out that long, but i have to leave him out long enough to do his thing. and he carries on and tries to rip the door down.i have to lock the doggie door when he's out because he's too big for it and he tries to fit through it and gets stuck. if i sit out there with him he is fine. so i have to keep going out and running him off the porch. quinn put a gate at the bottom of the porch so he couldnt get to the door, so he went to the window and tore the whole screen out of it and mangled it.so the gate didnt stay. hope you get some help on this one .i havent figured out how to stop mine ! LOL
Does Jazz like bones or those treat-filled toys? If so, why don't you try one of the smaller, hollow marrow bones, filled with a real yummy filling and give it to her (one for Hershey too). Perhaps this will make staying outside without you more interesting. Or if there is a toy that the 2 of them love playing with together that will take her attention off the fact that you aren't there with them. Even if in the beginning you have to stay out there a little while & try to sneak inside when her attention is focused elsewhere.
I know exactly what you are going thru - I had a Great Dane years ago that was the exact same way. He would bark continuously if I wasn't out there with him. Farley & Chloe aren't a problem - they keep themselves amused although they do prefer it if I'm out there to throw a ball for them!
Not sure about your situation, but Molly does the exact same thing if she can see me through the door. If I walk away she will go entertain herself. But it is not always easy to not be seen since it is a large sliding glass door! lol
My hubby didn't want to put a hole in our new house for a dog door either so we got one that sits into our sliding glass door. No cutting or drilling, just sit it there and tighten the knobs. Works great. I'm not sure what to tell you. She just wants mommy......lol
Jaw...I was waiting to find where you made a mistake at but i dont see you didn any thing. I was about to mention the in the sliding door dog doors when i saw Oasis posted about it first..I would say that the pooch cries cuz she see's you in the window..and you watch from there cuz you want her to stop so it doesnt upset the neighborhood..I have schnauzers..and the noise is a shrill annoying sound..you might try all the things mentioned..get a good filled treat..and stay way from the window so your not seen...and check out the in the door doggy doors..for small size they are not too much...comparativly...I have some who cry too..and it isnt the schnauzers most of the time...the shepherds are big babies more then the little ones..So..give this stuff a try..and dont think you did any thing wrong..obviously you must have done something right to have such a strong bond with a pooch...especially if you have more then one dog..they usually bond to the other dog stronger..so..you must have done something right....too late to change the title now..Good luck...and what ever works...tell me ok? i need help also
Thanks for everyone's suggestions! I threw some milk bones out in our ivy and that kept them busy for a while out there...lol
About the doors that you do not have to cut..tell me about them. Do they have to be on sliding glass doors? I don't have a sliding glass door. I do have a glass storm door.
I do not know what you guys are talking about. Do you have a link to one? Thanks.
