Well, its official. My husband has lost his mind...lol
Fathers Day is coming up and I've been asking what he'd like......his answer?
A Fainting Goat!!!! - lmao!
He just recently heard about fainting goats and HAS to have one...lol. We raised goats (and cows, and pigs) when I was a child so I know a wee-tad about them, but still need to learn more.
Anyway, we've been searching the net for a goat breeder of the Tennessee Fainting Goat and we found one who has 4 for sale about 40 miles from here. I guess Hector will now have a playmate...lol
For those who are familiar with fainting goats......can you imagine havign 10 of them in a field (or even more!) and lightning striking???? They'd all drop at once! I laugh every time I think of that.
For those who are not familiar with them, they are HOOT! They really do faint (or appear to ) when scared. They have a myotonic gene (the condition is called myotinia congenita) which causes them to stiffen and fall over when they get scared.....lol. They lay there for 10-15 seconds and can't move.
Sadly, they were once used as bait in sheep fields. When the coyotes would come, the goat would faint and the coyotes would attack it first since it was easy prey. This would allow the sheep time to seek cover.
Due to this, there are only 5-10 thousand of these goats left in the world.
I'm gonna turn this city boy musician into a country boy goat farmer......you just wait and see......lol
My sister and BIL have some of those goats. I didn't realize that they were a certain "kind" of goats.... lol... He honks his horn and they fall on the ground. They just laugh about it and I feel sorry for them...lol. Sounds like you are going to have so much fun with your new house and land. I am so jealous!
That is the funniest thing I ever heard. Reminds me of my great aunt. She used to faint, alot. She kind of looked like a goat, too! LOL, must be a distant relative.
Its nice that your hubby is such an animal lover. You will get so much enjoyment in your new place. 11 acres. Hey tell this city girl how you mow 11 acres and who's gonna get stuck doing it, lol!
Can you see my Australian Shepherds trying to heard them.I can just see the look in my dogs eyes.Like "What are you doing"That would be so funny.
I wanted some when I had sheep but my hubby said no.They cost to much but he got me a Jacob Ram that had 4 horns I think we paid $500 for him.He was mean.My dogs did not like to work him so I would have to get him out of the paster before I could work the dogs.Kyle (the ram) and my hubby played ring around the tree lots of time. That was funny until he did that to me.
Theres some in the paper here. LOL!!!! I told Brad that I wanted one and he thought I was looney. I forgot all about fathers day though. I need to start looking.
Cute. I can see Pharlanes' dogs faces when it spazzes out and topples. Then you tell the dog, what did YOU do? Get a pretty one like that cowspotted one in Twink's pictures.
OMG Now I want one! Wait til hubby hears this, he's gonna fall over laughing! I've heard of them but I didn't think they were real I thought they were like a myth or something! LOL Yeah imma blonde!
Ducks!!! Yes, Ducks!!!! I've always been facinated by the Indian Runner Ducks......they have those LONG necks and look so funny.......yep, they'll fit right in...lol We're gonna have the land of mis-fits...lol.......long necked ducks, fainting goats, silly dogs, even sillier cats, and a city boy....lol!!!
