Army or bust!

so i have decided to join the army!!! i talked to a recruiter today that is helping me prepare for MEPS (i have to drop 20-30 lbs before i can go to boot) the one Sgt. i talked to was my old boss from the job i am currently at so he is my inside guy. He cut through all the BS and gave me the straight and narrow about what i should expect what i need to do the be more prepared than everyone else and he said he will try to hold a job at the local armory for me so that i can report straight there after boot camp and my AIT training. W00t!!!!!!! i'm so happy. guess this mean i have to let the wife get that dobe she has been begging me for when i go to boot camp i suppose it wont be so bad. with our new yard and HUGE house we should have it good for a energetic dobe.

and i swore i would never have more than two dogs once eli passed...
old friend

How long do you have before you go in?  Is your wife happy or sad about it? I would be pretty sad. Start jogging, cutting the carbs, doing push ups pull ups, all that physical stuff. I wish you the best.

Nice looking dobe.

wow thanx for the support! yep i talked with two Sgt.s today and they have me on a strict schedule/plan for cuttingthe lbs. All that is holding me back from bootcamp is the weight.
I plan on going to boot in october even if i cut the weight early because while it is cold and snowing here i will be down south where it is more decent. LOL then to AIT then my choice of deployment

please be careful, don't beleive anything the recruiters tell you unless it is on paper, otherwise it doesn't exist. TRUST ME! They will tell you anything to join and do what ever it takes. The army recuiters are short on people because of the was so they are really scrounging for newbies right now. MAKE SURE ITS IN WRITING!!!!!

I know one person that my husband went to school with after bootcamp and he actuallty was able to get out of the Navy because the recruiter lied to him. I'm not sure what the recruiter said but the guy got out about 1 year after bootcamp about it.

yeah i heard that recruiters talk big.. and that is why i called every local recruiter i could and played dumb, to see if everything was roughly the same. then after all that i called my two friends that were both already in (both SGT's) and played dumb with them. It appears that because we are in a time of war, the recruiters cut alot of the fluff out and give it PRETTY MUCH straight as they can. they padded some edges, which my two friends so kindly ironed out for me... woot for army buds!

Even if its in writing its no guarantee.  We were on orders to go to california after my hubby is done taking his clas here in Georgia.....paper ordres and everything.  Since we've been here, the orders have changed to maryland, granted we still have no "New" paper orders yet, just goes to show what you expect and what you get are 2 different things.  Either way, I hope things go a LOT easier for you than they have my husband (and he did some major research before he joined)  One thing he made sure of: when he gets out of the army because of his job in the army he'll have a skill and be highly desirable in the civilian world.

I know its a little early but Welcome to the Army family!  Mollie's got a tough job ahead of her, but with determination, you will handle it just fine.

I was in the Navy for three years, should have been four. Long story, but my leaving had every bit to do with a recruiter lying "for me". I didn't go in until I was 22, I should have known better, but when you have an "authority figure" (so to speak) telling you "Yeah, just do this" it seems ok.  It bit me in the butt!!!  I had an honorable discharge and all, wasn't a big deal, but I shouldn't have had to leave earlier because of a guy, who works for our own government, made me lie!!!!  lol   Nice, huh??

Anyways, I never regreted going, it was a swift kick in the a$$ for me and I grew up a whole bunch. The biggest thing for me was to just remind myself each and everyday of boot camp "THIS IS JUST A MIND GAME!"   I think being a little older really helped me through it, heck I would do it again just for the self discipline and weight loss!!!  lol  I was at the top of the weight limit when I joined, had to have three new pairs of pants throughout boot camp because each pair slowly became too big and kept falling off!!  lol sheesh...I would kill to be in shape like that now!!!! lol

Best of luck to you, I was in during the gulf war, though I never left FLorida, I still dealt with everything going on there.  You are going in at a time where things are even worse. I admire a man who has the strength to acknowledge that and still devote themselves to the cause.

I have been a little long winded lately, overly emotional about my dad....lol  You guys must be tired after reading my babble!!  lmbo
