I'm sad...

We had talked about getting a Portuguese Water Dog and I had found a fabulous breeder within an hour's drive of me.  She just called to tell me that the puppies were born and see if I was still interested, but I had to tell her no because my husband is balking at having two dogs....

All day today I've been thinking so much about how I want another puppy, and then she calls....it broke my heart to tell her no!  My husband is frustrating me... he gets so irritated with Kula just doing dog stuff...he's like an old Scrooge at Christmastime.  I know some people are just not dog people, but he's honestly starting to be irritating.

I'll be dog sitting for a friend next weekend, so that will give me a good idea of what it's actually like to have two...maybe it will completely turn me off!  But I'm afraid I'm going to see how happy Kula is with a friend, just want one even more, and STILL have to try to convince the grouchy old man!

Sorry...long vent...

I had one dog for awhile and my mother didn't want another dog but when she came home one day I had rescued a heeler mix from the pound and she was so mad but she saw his face and couldn't be mad. And that was when he was 4 months old now he a little over a year and he her man.

My kids keep saying...Mom just get one!!  My little boy was pretty funny...told me, "I won't let Dad get angry!"  He definitely wouldn't make me get rid of it if I did get one, but he sure wouldn't be happy...and I'd be freakin' LIVID if he did something like that to me!  Guess I better just hope I can convince him

my husband tried to throw a fit when my cousin gave me phatboy. he was the cutest little kitty. i reminded him that he was not my parent and although i had to live by their rules while at home i dont have any bosses anymore .and that he is my partner and not my boss .i am a grown woman and perfectly capable of making my own decisions. i also reminded him that doing his cooking and laundry could get difficult for me if i was suffering from depression from being denied the adorable little kitty. and any kind of romantic notions would be out of the question as i would be way too depressed to even think about it. he just LOVES phatboy and even helped me find my frenchies when i decided i wanted them. i think men see our side of things when their laundry is stacked to the ceiling, the cooking utensils get dusty and they find a block of ice in the spot where their other half used to be.    You Are The Woman

I would be too rebellious with Matt if he told me no dogs. I would do it anyway and he would like it! ha... I agree with Dusty, I would not do his laundry, dishes, nothing romantic, anything until I got my way. No one is my boss ha!

Unfortunately he could live in the filth a lot longer than I could, so that tactic wouldn't work out well.

I just wore him down when I wanted to get Kula...he couldn't bear to listen to me anymore.    This time it doesn't seem to be working so well...

There MUST be another way!!

(Although I think I'll have to give up on the Portie...he's never gonna go for $1800 for a puppy.  I may just have to try and finagle another cockapoo...)

Maybe you could tell him that you want him to go with you to just go look at the puppys and maybe once he sees them he will finally say yes.

My hubby always said "No" and every time I brought one home he'd grumble for maybe an hour or two but then the cute face would end up turning him completely around and he'd be in love and to listen to him talking to others about the furpal you'd think it was his idea!  It just got to the point that I even stopped mentioning that I was thinking about getting one - I'd just go ahead and do it!

Ohhh that is just mean. Does he treat Kula decently? I hope so.  Get very depressed, cry really turn it on.  he must know you are the one that cares for them.  Are you looking to get a black and white one? that will look like a big Kula? LOL

I tried having him see and hold puppies when I wanted to get Kula...he's like "yeah, cute, let's go home".  Such a creep!

I know he loves Kula, but he would honestly be OK with it if Kula was gone.  He just really liked his life WITHOUT a dog...he's hopeless.

Thats a bummer about your hubby. My hubby is very understanding about stuff like that. But I think it's just because I'm a stay at home mum and love kids, and so he figures its easier than me wanting more kids or something, lol. He always jokes when I see a little baby and fawn over it. He will say, 'You want another puppy?' hehe.

What I would do is find out something he would really like. A vacation? A new 'guy' toy like an ATV or something? Lol. Once you know, then tell him this is something you want really bad and you want him to support you, and you will support him in the thing he wants a lot. 2 dogs are really easy to take care of. I have a medium sized and small sized one AND two toddlers and a cat.

I am not allowed to have another until the ones I have are dead! And he means it, I have used up all my "pleases" and "but he'll be put to sleeps."

What is it with husbands and dogs?  Seems a lot of people have the same problem.  Maybe wives should all go on strike and they can see how much we do and if we want another dog, damn it, we should be able to get one!

In my household it's just the oposite. My Hubby keeps wanting another dog, another cat, and I am the one to say, "NO!" We already have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 fish aquariums, 6 turtles.

That's a lot of poop to scoop, mouths to feed, vet bills, and a whole lot of hair balls floating around. My DH needs therapy for being an animal collector.
