Weird

Is it wierd that my dobie Trinity won't eat her food unless you add water to it. At first I thought it was that she liked softed food so I got her some soft food but she didn't eat it she wanted the hard food. Can anyone help me?

Did you try canned food or moist dry? If you tried just canned food try a moist food (Something like Kiddle and Bits I think it's a moist food) But when feeding moist or canned food their teeth get dirty quicker. So, always make sure they have something that they can play with that will help keep their teeth clean like a rope bone. Also take them to the vet on a regualr to have a teeth cleaning.

I have always heard that when they get hungry enough, they will eat. They may not like it at first, but they will eat before they starve to death... I don't know if others agree.

She has always been this way and the vet said she was fine last time I took her in. What do you mean by moist dry? I thought kibbles and bits was a dry food. I thought there was only dry and wet.

kibbles and bits is a dry food, but the kibbles are softer. you can squish them with your fingers. they are kind of like those burgers in a box. but i agree with jawlaw, they wont starve themselves to death. alot of that store bought food is yukky. you will find a better quality food at a feed store. here ,this might help you.

By no means was I sugesting Kiddles and Bits I was using the name as a guild line as to what I was talking about. It's not a hard food nor is it a wet food. Kibbles and Bits for some reason was the only think I could think of at the time. LOL

I don't buy my dog food at the grocerey store I buy it a small dog store. To me it seems like a smaller version of petsmart if that makes sense.

Hayley will only eat her dry food with water in it.  She will refuse it for days unless i put water in it......and her veggies.....lol.  I think it's good to have water in it, mainly because i am in Arizona and it is so hot.  It helps keep them from being dehidrated.

When you wet the food, it smells better, that is probably what the dog notices.

I used to have to add water to my last dobe's dry food. Of course, he didn't have 1/2 his teeth, but I still had to do it, lol. I also used to add water to my rat terrier's dry food, just because I did it for my dobe. Since we put my dobe to sleep, my rat terrier doesn't like the water in his food.

I agree with Jawlaw. When I first got Ella, she was on a really icky brand of dogfood, so I slowly switched her over and she did not like the new food at all. But I just keep integrating it into her old food. At first she would do her darnest to pick out the old, lol. After awhile she realized that that was what she was to eat because slowly there was more new food than old and she didn't want to go hungry. Dogs are a lot like kids in that way, in that they can get really spoiled and picky with what they eat, lol.

To put it in a nutshell, you have spoiled him. I've been there too. Used to put chicken broth in my dogs food. Have you ever thought about maybe changing out his food. I am not in any way trying to make you feel bad, but did you know Ole Roy is one of the cheapest foods out there for a dog. In case no one has ever told you, it is true.  Nutro is better but there are still better foods than that. Remember, I am not trying to make you feel bad or anything. Please remember that.

I tried Nutro. She ate it the whole time she was growing up but then she just stopped eating it. And since she didn't want to eat it she started getting into the trash. I have also tried pedigree but the same thing happened, except she only liked the pedigree for about 3 weeks. I've tried alot of others but the samething happened. Ol'Roys the only one that she lives.

this is off the naturespet website .ol'roy is a very poor quality dog food and there has been a previous incident with their dog food

In 1995, Nature's Recipe pulled thousands of tons of dog food off the shelf after consumers complained that their dogs were vomiting and losing their appetite. Nature's Recipe's loss amounted to $20 million. The problem was a fungus that produced vomitoxin (an aflatoxin or "mycotoxin," a toxic substance produced by mold) contaminating the wheat. In 1999, another fungal toxin triggered the recall of dry dog food made by Doane Pet Care at one of its plants, including Ol' Roy (Wal-Mart's brand) and 53 other brands. This time, the toxin killed 25 dogs.
