why does he do this??

Does anyone know why Bacon likes to rub his head on dead birds? The other day i caught him rubbing on a dead baby bird that had fallen out of a tree. I threw the baby bird away and then whenever we'd go outside for the next couple of days he'd take off to the spot the bird was and rub his head on the ground. Then tonight he was at his grandma's house and she caught him rubbing his head on a dead blue jay that was in her yard. It is really weird and gross that he does this. He also likes to lick bird poop and sometimes rolls around in it. Is this behavior just a phase?? How do i break him of this?? has anyone elses dog ever done anything like this??

Wow! Strange. But kinda funny too lol. I know it is kinda gross but it is so odd. I have never heard of a dog doing something so odd. Perhaps you wil have to inspect the yard for dead birds before letting your dog out. I have heard of dogs playing with the birds and the bird dies and they poke at it wondering why it is not "playing" back but never rubbing on the bird.

I've never had my dogs do that with a dead bird (to my knowledge) but let there be a dead, rotten, stinking to heaven, fish on the shore and they'll roll in it to be sure if I'm not quick enough to stop them!
