At what age do kittens start getting hormones and go into heat? I'm getting Fez nuetered once he is better and has gained some weight, and Stash is gonna get spayed at the same time as Fez. I dont want any accidental babies. I know they are too young right now but at what age do cats typically start trying to mate and stuff?
My pleasure. I learn stuff from other peoples' questions. The one site is interesting because I breed dogs. The other explains why this stupid, ancient housecat always seems to be in heat. The stupid thing really is...The article says, unbred, they come in season every month
Trinitys first heat didn't come till she was a year old. I thought that was odd so I took her to the vet and they said she was fine and that it was normal for a dog to come into heat around this age.
Just like with human females the first can be very very light if it even shows at all. Often female dogs will have what is called a silent heat. On an average their first heat will occure between the ages of 4 months to 8 months but in some cases (not all too common) They can start as early as 3 months and wait as long as a year. It really depends on the development of the dog.
Kittens are the same way with the exception that cats can get pregnant almost immediatly after they deliver. We have had cats that go directly back into heat and become pregnant. Their litter is born shortly after they turn the first ones loose. With dogs the heat comes 4 months after they deliver. A dogs heat cyscle is every 6 months normally.
