Rocky's skin has black "ink spots" lol They seem to be everywhere on him. The light tan spots on his body showed up more and more over about a three or four month period, but has slowed down or stopped now.
Vet calls him a boxer St Bernard mix, but I am wondering what else he is....
These are the spots in the fur that showed up after we had him a couple months. Keep in mind he is a pound dog and I am unsure of his age. Vet says he was about a year or so when we got him last summer.
We never doubted the boxer or the St. Bernard, he has the personality of a St Bernard and you can def. see the boxer in him. I am just wondering what breeds have the spots on the skin,
As far as the spots on his fur...they developed slowly. They weren't there when we first got him. He only had the large patches.
Sorry..I got a little side tracked trying to spot the Saint Bernard in him, lol..Any dog can have black spots..Black spots are just extra pigment. Think of a beauty mark on a person..no need to worry
No worries here....lol. Just got to thinking about them and wondered why they are there!
My mom kept telling me Dalmations have them on thier skin, but I wondered if they were on alot of dogs, but most people wouldn't even know it since they have so much fur or dark fur.
Interesting about comparing it to a mole. Makes sense.....
MPP, Chopper has those same dark spots under his fur too. I always thought Rocky looked like he had a bit of rat terrier in him. Maybe he does?? I'll try and find a good pic of his spots to compare.
OK, maybe not good pics, but you can still see the spots on him. Kind of light in these pics, but they are more noticeable in real life, I think:
I really wish I had a pic of Hunter, because he is Yellow Lab/Cattle Dog mix, and he has those as well. But his are more of a tannish color (Kind of like the tan parts of your dog MPP)
He looks exactly like a Yellow Lab and has those splotches on his skin as well a few on his fur. Maybe Cattle Dog somewhere?

Most of my dogs have them lol. Even the darker dogs but you notice them really well on a white or light colored dog. Never had a problem with this myself. There is something I found called Black Skin Disease but it is usually seen in the Pomeranian, Keeshonden and Alaskan Malamutes. LOL I don't think that is your problem though.
Here is a brief discription of what I am talking about. I was just researching some stuff one day and found this. I had never heard of it before but then I really don't deal with these breeds other then for training.
This too I shall live through.
