Dry ,Cracked paw pads ?

Hi i was clipping my dobies nails an noticed the pads on his feet are slightly worn an cracked. It appears They are not un-comfortable for me to touch them and he shows no sign that they are painfull. They are just very dry and rough. The cracks are not deep or have ever bled but i was just wondering is this normal wear 'n' tear on the pads. He gets alot of exercise (as he most definately needs it!) on soft and hard terrains. Does it link to any illness or hes lacking in something like vitamins etc. I have tried smearing loads of vaseline on his pads to try an moisturise them but he just licks it off ~Twink

ever make home made ice tea? You know how you boil a buch of tea bags to make a concentrated tea sypup almost? Well do that with camomile tea and soak the paws in it for about ten min each. Three times a week for two weeks. Get some horse hoof cream and rub in in the pads it works wonders for moisturizing them. get it good on the nails too. This is a common problem in dobies but you keep those pads moisturized and youll be ok. It is sort of like chapped lips on us. If you absolutly cannot get the hoof cream then use olive oil. it wil work but will take longer. I say the nails too because Dobies nails tend to split and chip.

Twinkle, also, how hot is it where you live? If the temperatures have been really high, and your doggie has been walking on cement a lot, he could have burned his paws. This happened one time to my aunt's min pins. We were camping at this lake, and were spending the day on the cliffs diving into the water. Well, she brought her dogs and it was really hot that day and they were walking on the rocks. The next day, their paws looks cracked and dry. But with them, it was actually uncomfortable. They stayed on their blankets all day, poor things. Their paws can actually get sunburned as well if they are laying in the sun with their feet exposed.

I would guess that bag balm would soften them a bit.
It is probably good if they are a bit dry and hard, so they resist sharp rocks and fungus?

You can get bag balm at Walmart. I use it for everything up to diaper rash. Works wonders. But then again I don't use it for diaper rash anymore. That was a long time ago.

It's stuff farmers rub the cows udders with so they don't get dry and chapped.
Feed stores should have it.
