On a lighter note....

I am guilty of not getting Molly fixed yet. Bad mommy I know.

She had another heat cycle and for the second time, she has had a false pregnancy. Though my lack of responsibility is nothing to laugh at, her behavior has been hilarious. And a bit sad.

She has picked a small pink rubber boxing glove that squeeks as her baby. This has been a real ordeal around here for three days. She carries it everywhere. She cries consistently. She hides it from us. Protects it. Licks it. She has just about ripped Rockys head off when he tried to sniff it. It is his toy and he is thoroughly confused as to why he can't play with it!!!!

I feel so bad for her mentally. She is really going through a traumatic time, but it is really hard not to find her funny.

She takes it outside, puts it in bed with us. I will not let this happen again! The guilt is killing me.

My feet are babysitters I guess. She keeps bringing it in and leaving it at my feet. If I move it or touch it though, she gets all stressed out.

Last night, one of the boys' friends came over. He didn't know the story and took it from her and threw it across the yard for her to chase. I thought she was going to have heart attack!!  She went bizerk. Matt felt so bad once we told him the story.

Has anyone been through this? I have researched it a bit on the net, says they can pick and object and treat it as a baby, but it didn't give the details of how they would act.

My poor little girl. How long with this last? lol

Damn, that is really deep.

What would happen if she had puppies? She is acting like I would probably act if I had kids...don't touch my baby!

BACK OFF!

That is really deep. Poor thing. She has transferred ..the toy is her baby.

That reminds me of a documentary many years ago about gorillas in the jungle.  A  teen gorilla had a baby. She didn'tknow not to let every other gorilla carry her baby because they can be too rough.  One of the gorillas in being too rough killed her baby.  She carried the dead baby around for months. I never forgot that.  She was in mourning and wouldn't let anyone come near her or her baby. She just didn't get the fact the baby was dead. Or maybe she did.

Animals are very sensitive.

I have to be honest. Russ and I were talking tonight and we are half wondering if she "knows" it is dead?? She keeps crying. She cries when she carries it. She cries if she without it. I don't know. It is easy to laugh, because she has done some silly things with it, but I truly wish I knew what she is thinking. I feel bad for her. She has milk and everything. She produced milk the last time too, vet said the only problem with that is risk of infection. So far so good with that aspect.

Do you know she literally put her tits on this toy and stared at it!!!! ????? I don't know what to do for her other than to let it go and let her handle it.

Wow! I've read about that before, but have never heard of it actually happening. Poor thing must be so confused! Well, one a good note, you know she would probably be a good momma if she was ever one

Tyson, I saw that too! It was soooooo sad!

I think I remember hearing a little about the gorilla story. Would love to watch that.

Maybe I should take it from her then. I don't know. I would hate to torment her more. Sheesh....anyone her a dog psychologist????? lol  I think we need some doggy therapy.

This is my fault for not getting her fixed. We have had a couple of financial set backs this year and it was easy to keep saying "Next month". It should have been done!

thats soo dad the poor baby girl i get real emotional to the point of tears if somethings up with  harvey. Maybe you could wait until she has finished her cycle until taking the toy away as it could cause depression,(which is hard to pull them out of) anxiety etc and them get her fixed if you are not planning on breeding from her... poor little girl .. its hard when you dont know what they are thinking

No breeding here. So getting her fixed is going to happen.

Last night she laid in bed and quivered all night. I did take the "baby" away from her and she finally calmed down and went to sleep, but she woke up right away crying. Man, this is weird.

Dunno.
Maybe she is reacting to you
Might be harsh, but have you just told her to be quiet, as though it is naughty to fuss like that?
I know for sure that dogs with fear issue get real bad when coddled at the time they exhibit fear. Are you making poor little baby noises at her when she does this?
I have had false pregnancy before, seems to me there was a lot of whining going on with this one particular dog, but she is real vocal, anyway.

Molly is pretty vocal with me normally, like she is trying her darndest to talk to me.

I have been kind of tough on her at times and told her to knock it off! lol  It does sound harsh, but, sheesh, she is driving me crazy. When I tell her to stop she just hunkers down and slithers away. Like I have crushed her world. That behavior is nothing new, she does this anytime she has been in trouble...you know, for things like ripping out the garbage out back like she did this morning!!!!!???!?!?!?!? GGrrr....my father in law did not close the lids! lol

Just like the shivering in bed last night, I had to get kind of tough with her and force her to lay down, eventually she fell asleep, but I woke up with her sleeping practically under my chin which she doesn't normally stay so close when asleep. She is a "butt" sleeper!  She wedges somewhere between Russ' butt and mine!  Tight quarters!  (and dangerous!  lmao) (Meaning Rus' butt of course!!!!!!! ROFL)

Well, my sympathy. I have a koo-koo dog here too. Megan is afraid to go outside at night. Means I drag her out, while she wets on herself and vicinity, or I just let her wait till morning. That means 5pm....till 6am. She REALLY doesn't want to go out though.
