Welcome!!! We are a pet forum but we talk just about anything here.
I have no idea about the AKC papers since it's been so long since I have dealt with them. My pure bred isn't a AKC breed, and my Boxer came with her papers when we rescused her. I'm sure there will be many here that will know the answer to that question. I'm sure Kitty's Mom can answer that.
I didn't have to send in for papers when I got my Chihuahua, the breeder already had them. I would think if you had to send out for them it would only take a week or two? I would be worried if it took more than 2 weeks, but I'm really not sure how long they are suppose to take.

Registering a Dog
A purebred dog is eligible for AKC registration if its litter has been registered. When you purchase a dog said to be AKC-registrable, you should get an individual Dog Registration Application from the seller. Once the application has been completed, you should submit it to the AKC with the proper fee. You can also register a dog online. In about three weeks, you will receive your dog's AKC Registration Certificate. When your puppy is registered, you can take advantage of the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan with an introductory 60 days pet healthcare insurance at no-cost to you
