OK, as many of you know, furum member Mundane and I are married. Today is his birthday, so I decided to bake him a cake and frost it. Here are the results:
LMFAO!!! Sure!! I figured out how to make the best frosting now, so I'll go ahead and make one for you too.
You can imagine how frustrated I was yesterday, nothing was going right with that friggin cake!!! First of all, when I went to get it out of the oven, I didn't let it cool off enough (stupid me) before I went to turn it over, so 1/2 of it stuck in the pan and the other 1/2 fell out. So I returned the top part to the bottom, only it was broken in two so there was a huge split down the middle.
Then I was mixing up the frosting and I wanted to get it really really red, but only managed to make it pink. So I added a little bit of blue, hoping to make it a dark red blood color. NAH, it turned out lavender-ish. So I added a little more blue. I had used all of the red food coloring so I didn't have any more to add. Then I added a little green, as the blue just kept making it just a shade darker purple. Well, the green just didn't do the trick, so I added a whole bunch more blue and green, and got some weird dark purplish-grey color. I was satisfied with the color, but now the consistency was all wrong, and it was beginning to taste like I'd just only used powdered sugar and water (was trying to make a buttercream frosting with almond flavoring). I ended up adding a whole bag of powdered sugar, going to the store and getting another bag and adding some of that to it!!!
I had also run out of butter so I got some of that and when I got home I realized that the tub was cracked wide open. Didn't get around to taking it back last nite. So my frosting turned out like hell and Brad told me not to worry, I tried. He's so sweet. But I said I was gonna do frosting if it killed me!!
So today, I exchanged my cracked butter for a new one and started from scratch on the frosting. This time the frosting turned out wonderful with great taste and texture and consistency. So I wanted it to be a sheet cake and not just frost it while it was in the pan, so I flipped it over again and same thing happened with 1/2 in and 1/2 out. So I scraped what I could get of what was sticking to the pan back onto the cake and frosted it and this is the result!! Whew!! Long story, sorry!!
Most definately. Whenever I did cakes for the family (I was the unofficial birthday/celebration cake maker) I almost always added sprinkles. Sprinkles are the BEST!
He's really gonna laugh his ass off when he sees it!!! OMG!! I'll tell him I made him a Happy Birthday thread on here so's he can see it and see the before/after pics of this monstrosity.
At least you attempt to bake cakes. The kitchen here gets too hot when you turn the oven on. But I guess being 106 out with a heat index of 115 its gonna be hot. But I would love a piece of cake....on Sunday. Its my cheat day with the diet. Next you can bake a German Chocolate cake....yummy!!!!! Now I am hungry.
i think the pilsbury dough boy is gonna bust his gut laughing. j/k. it looks like a big brownie. id eat that sucker in a minute!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUNDANE!!!!!!
its the thought that counts. anyone can go buy a store bought cake. but the time and effort of doing it yourself is really what counts. who cares what it looks like. it will be eaten anyway. and it looks really good to me. tell mundane happy birthday !
Mollie, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! After the god-awful past 5 days I have had I can honestly say I just enjoyed a healthy rip-roaring laugh which was very much needed! I wasn't laughing at you I swear but with you! I bet the cake tastes absolutely divine!
LOL, Are you feeling a tad hormonal. LOL. How funny. I bet it tastes yummy
I have a frosting you can try next time, one pack of instant chocolate pudding, put in bowl, add enough milk to make pudding frosting consistancy then fold in one container of cool whip, yummy. You could actually use any flavor pudding.
Bah!! I thought I could get away w/out anyone knowing it's my birthday, I suck at that game. Even though I only got to have a small spoonful of the cake, it was heavenly. The look on her face when I got home made my birthday the best birthday ever. The best way to describe the look that she gave me was if you were to come home and find your three year old child has just shaved your dog and they're so proud of the job they did. It was just like that.
*edit to add: Thank you all for wishing me a happy birthday. Now I know I am one year closer to death
