I don't have a kid in school. I don't have a kid at all but I did hear something on the news about them debating when school should start cause some people don't want it to start till after labor day.

editted to say WOW I didn't realize so many places did year round school.
I wish we had year round school around here. But it is so hard to get parents to go with that. My youngest on the other hand pretty much had year round school this past school year. He only had 3 weeks off beginning of the summer and 2 and the end.
I also wish the scool were set up where the kids had to wear uniforms. And let me explain why. Growing up my family did not have alot of money and we kids did not wear the brand name stylish stuff. Which by the way was fine by me. But other kids were harsh growing up. I got picked on day and night at school. And that is hard on kids. I know it was for me. And being hows now with my kids growing up we do not have alot of money so my kids do not wear brand name stuff. And I worry about them getting picked on like I was in school.
On the up side we are fixin to move back to Jacksonville, Fl and alot of schools have uniform dress codes.
i agree on the uniforms. my parents had five kids. money was tight. we didnt have the latest fashions either. i never got picked on because i was small but a scrapper. but i stuck up for the kids that did get picked on. kayla has lots of nice clothes, but i spend alot of money on her clothes. money that could be saved if the school had a uniform code. school seasons must really vary by state. school here gets out the middle of june and starts back up the first week of september.
My son wears uniforms. He has worn them since 1st grade so he doesn't know any different. however, it would be hard for older children to have to start wearing uniforms if they are not use to it.
I LOVE IT! They all look the same. They don't have to worry that someone is dressed better than them! Girls are a little more expensive, but boys have shorts and polos. You have to buy them from the school and they are more expensive than Walmart, JC Penney, Sears..., but I buy a couple pair of shorts and 4 or 5 shirts and just wash over and over.
We also have a resale, so you can buy gently used clothes at a fraction of the cost.
My son still gets to dress "cool" when he goes to outside school functions, but it is still easier and less expensive
