Itchy dog...

Well, I know Molly swimming in the pool does nothing for her flea med, but she love to swim!

She is itching like crazy the last two days. Rocky rarely scratches. I have checked Molly over pretty well and see no fleas. I haven't ever had an issue with fleas before so I didn't expect to really find anyone crwling around.

I guess my concern is the pool water. I think it is drying her skin out. I just read to put oil or an egg in their food and it will help. Has anyone heard of doing this? Just curious.

I've heard of that..I usually have to put an egg in Delilah's food to get her to eat it anyways lol but it doesn't help her skin, she has very dry skin and also loves to swim in the pool so if anyone can help lol I need to know also

My old Boxer used to have the same problem. I used to put an egg in his food evernight plus a teaspoon on veggie oil. Once or twice a week I would cook him rice in chicken broth and boiled meats. It helped him out alot since he could never stay out of our pool.

Trinity has dry skin and I just give her an otmeal bath once a month depending on the average temp for the month. Sometimes I only give her a bath every 2 or 3 months.

my daughter takes oatmeal baths when she has a bad outbreak of hives. it really helps with the itching. if it works for people i dont see why it wouldnt work for dogs too. it would be worth a try anyway.

its really easy to use. just run bath water and put a packet of the oatmmeal bath treatment in the running water. stir the water and put your dog in the bath water.you will need to get his whole body soaked in the water to saturate his skin. here is a link to a good brand. there are others you can buy, but imo ,aveeno is the best. if you cant get the aveeno and need to find something similar, just make sure they contain colloidal oatmeal.

I've always heard eggs should be given in moderation.  I know I've heard all the egg mumbo jumbo for humans. Fish oil and olive oil are great to use everyday.  I think that also sometimes its just outside seasonal allergies that cause the itchies.  We just got over that with Rufus. I've never seen any change in him using the medicinal types of shampoos. But its worth a try for you. MAybe rinsing him after his swim would help.
