obediance training

I have started Hyde's obediance training, so far he knows sit, and down. Im gonna try teaching him stay next. What are some other important obediance commands I can teach him? Im gonna teach him tricks eventually, like shake, roll over etc, but i want to do the obediance stuff first. Any suggestions?

Also Im gonna start training him to walk on a leash, so far he is a little hesitant. Im gonna try bringing treats with me next time i walk him.

lmao@ tuna. i know what you mean. it is frustratining when they just look at you. i go out with mine, even though the yard is fenced , but at night, i wait on the porch for them. rocky will do his thing and then when i call him to come in he just stays where he is and looks at me. sometimes i have to go get a treat to get him to come. by then i am really mad. next time i'm gonna get a human treat and eat it in front of him ! lol

yeah definatley PD ..'leave it' is one i'm teaching Harvey at the moment. Aslong as i have some tasy morsel in my hand he will drop anything and immediately drop to the ground in his 'wait position'.

I taught Harvey with treats praise and Hand signals. The hand signals are great as it strengthens the voice command. and especially if you are in loud places.

Harveys hand signals for wait (which is lie down but wait worked better for us) is a flat hand held upright and outwards.

Sit is a fist.

Leave it is a flat hand facing downwards.

Harveys is learning to stay at the moment and waiting for a treat placed on the ground a metre away at 1st then get further and further. he 1st is told wait/lie down. he will try to move but soon as he does he is told wait again. Then i move away and point to the food and say 'get it then' .he learned it in a day... that dogs is so clever it amazes me
