Ohhh, I know how they talk!! lol. I've been there several times, but this year we're going up in costume, so I wanted to be able to talk like them. I'm going as an Irish peasant, Brad's going as a Scottsman. I'm so excited!! I just can't wait!! We're going up on Labor Day weekend, busy as it's gonna be it's the only weekend we can go!! We're going up after I get off work on the 3rd, and staying that nite up there, then we're going to the renfest on Sunday all day, then staying that nite, then leaving the next day. We may get up to the Mall of America on Monday, but I don't know. I'm just soooo excited to get away for a whole weekend, I could pee myself with anticipation!! lol. Thanks for the link, Puttin. I'll look at it later, when I have more time. I've already spent waaaay too much time on the puter today, I need to get something done!! lol.
You know my boss sells things at the Ren faires. We are in California. What state are you in???? He goes to Georgia, Maryland ,New York, and will be adding Florida this year I beleive. They are headed out today. If you see a booth called BullsEye. That is their booth. They sell leather goods and clothing.
That place is so fun~! We call it the 'Ren Fest' where I live. It's only about a 5 minute drive from where I live since I'm out in the boonies. We went on opening weekend. I wish I could afford the customes they sell, I would totally go in costume.

Kitty, I thought you would have known the lingo already. LOL
Yeah you could make one, take a look at the syles of clothing and hunt. Peasant type of shirts are easy to find. Bodice, hmm, not sure but maybe replace buttons with grommets and use the string to hold it closed, then the gauze skirts, they double them, and tie a knot on the side sometimes to show the one under.
We are in the process of making our own costumes right now. We looked in the McCalls and Simplicity catalog thingies at Wal*Mart and found some cool patterns there. Mine on the cover looks a lot more regal than what I'm making it. My mom is helping us make them. Mine is just going to be about as peasant-y as it gets. It's just a light shade of green for the gown, made of like dish towel material (I don't remember what you call it, someone help me out with that one, where you can see the definite lines in the fabric??) and the corset is a dark green velvety material. It's going to be hot as hell, so I'm not putting sleeves on the gown. I hope that doesn't make a huge difference, maybe I'll look more like an Irish bar maid?? But Brad's going as a Scottsman, he has a kilt and a big, baggy shirt with the big baggy sleeves, and the little leather pouch, and he's gonna have the sash to go along with it. I really wanted to wear a hooded cloak, but being in September, I don't think I'd enjoy it. Either it would be too damn hot to wear, or I'd end up having to carry it around all day.
The RenFest we're going to is in Shakopee, MN. It's like 10 miles away from Minneapolis/St. Paul. It's like 20 min from the Mall of America, which is in Minneapolis. It's really super fun there and I hope I can convince my parents and maybe my bro and his wife, that they need to go too. None of them have ever been there before and I've been there 3 times now. I'm just soooo damn excited to go!!! I really could pee myself with anticipation!! lol
great site puttin. i love the renaissance period i would love to be surrounded by all those knights on horseback ..sounds like a huge amount of fun these fairs. I can only imagine the costumes must be stunning
You can make your costume how ever you like. There are poor looking whenches(as they say) very ragged edges on the skirts, and women that dress like the upper crust type. Parasols. I think the main key thing is to excessorize like crazy. Find big pewter looking bracelets. Your shoes make a big difference too. When I went, I dressed up, but I could have added much more to my costume, like sashes around the waste, those wraps around the shoulders, A top under the bodice(corsette) with the off the shoulder look is a sexy look. Get a til of some kind and hand that from your waste too, with a leather pouch. Remember double up the skirt. Its sort of the bloomers under the skirt look. My boss is wanting to set up a website soon. Gee who does he want to take the orders. LOL
Take a picture when you are all put together. If you have a pewter stein bring it along. They rope them onto the waste too, when not in use.
