sad day at work

the saddest thing happened at work yesterday. A women called us and said she had adopted a cat from the pound and on Monday it was neutered or spayed and the women picked the cat up Monday evening. Tuesday(yesterday) she said the cat still wasnt acting normal, it was lathargic and out of it still. So they made her an appt and she came in the same day. I was the one helping her and checking her in, I asked her to put the cat on the scale so I could get a weight. I watched her take the cat out of the crate, it was like a limp doll, no movement whatsoever. She put it on the scale and it wouldnt stand, it fell over and puked all over. We immeditaly took the cat in the back so the doctors could work on him, it was clear this cat was on its death bed. 3 minutes later the cat passed away, had cardiac arrest. It was so sad. Apparently when the cat came to the Vets office to get neutered it was already lathargic and looked like it had a URI. I wasnt there that day, thats just what I heard, and the jerk doctor either didnt notice or care and performed the neuter anyway. The cat might have lived if they had post poned the surgery untill the cat was 100%. I was especially saddened by this cause this is the exact thing that could have happened to Fez when I got him, they didnt operate on Fez cause he was weak, dehydrated, and to skinny, if they would have operated on Fez he would have most likely suffered the same fate as this poor cat.

It was just so sad and so unexpected, I wasnt prepared for it cause everyone thought this cat was still a little out of it from the surgery, no one knew how bad of shape this poor kitty was in. I wont forget it, and I feel very bad for the poor owner who only had her cat for an evening.

it is surprising that they would do any kind of surgery on a sick animal. weird. i know my vet does pre-op testing. i would rather pay a little extra to be safe when it concerns my babies. i fel so bad for the lady. its heartbreaking to lose a pet. no matter how long you have had it. i fell in love with my frenchies the first time i held them. lol
