I guess I've been blind to this, but I would have NEVER thought a Humane Society chapter could do this. How can this be prevented? I've never dropped off an animal at a shelter before. Do they allow you to inspect their premises before leaving the animal? This just puts a really bad taste in my mouth. I know not all shelters are like this, and this is probably one of a very few......but its enough that I would want to inspect any place I went to before leaving/adopting a pet. I know some of you work at shelters and Humane Society's........what is your policy on allowing possible adoptees to tour your facility? Not just where the clean cages are....but all of it? This story really bothers me.........I guess because I've always imagined Humane Societies as soomewhat of a safe haven for animals.
A Jasper Mountain animal shelter operator is in custody in Marion County on charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
Annette Mobley is being held on a $25,000 bond.
She was arrested after investigators discovered dead dogs and cats and removed dozens of survivors at the Perry Link Memorial Humane Society Shelter on U.S. Highway 41.
Investigators said the shelter floor was covered in animal waste and two dead puppies and two dead cats were found inside.
Surviving animals were removed from the shelter and from the mobile home of the operator.
Hamilton County Humane Education Society officers assisted in removing 26 dogs and 16 cats from the three-month-old shelter.
Deputies and animal control officers found dozens of caged dogs at Mobley's residence.
At least three animal carcasses were found.

The case against a Jasper Mountain animal shelter operator charged with 100 counts of animal cruelty has been bound over to a grand jury.
Marion County Sessions Court Judge Clifford Layne found probable cause that Annette Mobley, president of a Humane Society chapter, should have known about the condition of animals in her control.
Investigators discovered 57 neglected dogs and cats in the Jasper shelter on June sixth, then went to Mobley's trailer home on Jasper Mountain the next day and discovered about 80 more dogs in ill health or dead.
At the urging of Mobley's attorney, Layne reduced Mobley's bond to $25,000 from an initial $65,000, but Mobley remains jailed.

that is sad. she sounds more like she may be an animal hoarder/collector. she may have meant well and thought she was saving the animals. most of these people mean well but they have way too many animals and cant care for them all. they end up starving to death and living in filthy conditions. its a good thing the animals were discovered and rescued. hopefully she will get some psychological help as it is a form of sickness.
Brings up those “Trust “ issues… you want to believe that if they say ~Animal Welfare _________ ~ .. that you can trust it… but there is no such thing as blind trust… as we all are learning.
Thing must be checked and re checked for the sake of the animals.
So sad… makes me just shake my head and wonder why... do these things happen.
our local shelter allows you to see all of it. they even encourage you to take the pet you are considering adopting into a room and spend some time with the animal before you make your decision.all animals are innoculated upon arrival. and the workers are very caring of the pets.
