my female french bulldog has been doing something strange on and off the last couple of days. she sits on her rear and spins around in circles. i know she doesnt have worms. i have been checking her stools . i am at a loss as to why she is doing it. any ideas what causes dogs to do that?
When I read your post the first thing that I think about is that the Anal Sacs need to be expressed.(I guess that is the right term). I have never had to express those on my dogs. But once Tough and Patches had a arguement and bit a pretty good hole in Tough's ear. And Tough popped his own anal sac. And I tell ya that was the stinkiest thing I had ever smelled. Likely the smell went away quickly.
LOL, I think it prbably looks cute having a little stubby dog doing that. I too think its time for anal expressing. Have you ever done it. It pretty easy. When I do it I just do it while bathing. Your puppers would be easy too, with such shory fur, rince express, a little shampoo, rinse dry and your done. Washing a short haired dog like yours must be heaven.
Its rather funny, the looks Sasha gives me when I am expressing hers. She just looks me straight in the eye, as if to say what in the h*ll are you doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two common methods which can be referred to as the "external" and "internal" methods. With the external method we express the anal glands by placing a paper towel (or something similar) against the glands (which can be felt with the fingers - they feel like "grapes" under the skin) and gently pressing on them to get them to express. With the other method of expressing the anal glands, called the "internal" method, we first put a latex exam glove on and lubricate the index finger with KY jelly. Then the index finger is gently inserted in the anus and we isolate the gland between the index finger and thumb. Then we gently squeeze the gland from both sides (inside and outside) to express the secretion. I personally prefer this method because (for me at least) I can express more of the secretion from the gland than with the external method. "

I will never express my dogs anal glands, i leave that up to the techs at work. It smells so bad and if you get even a drop on your scrubs while your working, nothing gets the smell out and you walk around smelling like that all day. It never hapened to me, but I've heards stories. Yuck!
