Today is Ella's first birthday! I got her a sweater and also a new pig's ear since she loves those so much. I can't believe she's one already!
I was going to put this on another thread, but I feel lazy...lol..Yesterday I was at the Humane Society and they had a PUREBRED English Mastiff for adoption. She was only 10 months old, and the sweetest thing! She was a fawn and was so mellow. I could not believe someone put a Mastiff in a shelter. I was actually going to adopt her, because Mastiff's are my favorite breed of dog, but I forgot my driver's license. I went home to get it, and when I got back, she was already adopted! They don't do holds, so they wouldn't put her on hold for me. I was so bummed. *Sigh* one day I'll have a Mastiff hopefully. I have always wanted a Mastiff and a Chihuahua. I'm a weirdo huh? lol

Your no weirdo in my book. My sister has a English Mastiff and a Chi. Here is Tess and Prissy. Its not a very good picture...kind of fuzzy. But we were at a friends house for someones B-day and they were both begging for cake.
not at all .the english mastiff is me and hubbys favorite large breed dog. the black masked fawns our our favorite. we came close to buying a pup and was even in contact with the breeder. but then we ended up buying this place and there just isnt enough room for a dog that size. i,m glad we didnt get him now because we are totally in love with our little frenchies. hubby even wants another one. i am also surprised that a dog like that ended up in a shelter. that is a rare thing
I see Mastiffs all the time in shelters here because they are too big. One matiff was surrendered because the owner didn't want to pay the animal deposit fee at the apartment.
Happy birthday, Ella. The breeders should have a take back policy on those large dogs. Even people that get through my rather tight screening, have turned out to be bad pet owners. I bet for all that size, Labs are more work than Mastiffs
Thanks for the birthday responses everyone :) I've even given her people food today, so she must know something is going on, lol.
Kitty, I totally agree.
Jess, I cannot believe Borris is almost one too! Seems like you just got him!
Paige, you really do get a lot in your shelters? Wow, this is the first mastiff I have ever seen in a shelter. Sometimes they get some that say 'mastiff mix' but you can tell they're not really mixed with mastiffs, they just say that because they have been there awhile and its a good way to get people interested. Sad that they would have to resort to that to get people to adopt. I hardly even see them in the paper here. Usually just an ad or two. I think if I ever did get one from a breeder I would probably have to go out to state, because such an expensive dog should also come with guarantees and a good bloodline, and the ads I see here don't have any of that.
