I have a question I was always told that when you get a cat or dog fixed at a young age as they grow they will gain more weight then they would if they were fixed at a leter date. Is this true?
The reason I am asking is because since my uncle is probably moving inwith me and my mother we will have to get her fixed because of loki and eski his 2 dogs. They are both males and are sort of aggressive when it comes to trinity anyways. Trinity is almost 2 years old and i want to keep her at a healthy weight. So if I get her fixed now would I have to ajusted her diet so control her weight?
Ya know I've always heard that too, But with excersize I don't think its true. My male was neutered probably at 6 months or earlier and he is at a perfect weight almost 6. My other 2, females poodles are fine too. Its all in wether they get overfed and under excersized. I am begining to think that its an old wives tale.
I think it is an old wives tale as well. I think every dog is differnt and some may turn out to be chunky while others are naturally skinny. Depends a lot on how active a dog is too, puppies are so active you hardly ever see an overweight pup, but as they slow down with age most dogs would probly gain a few more pounds or a few dozen pounds....lol. At least thats my opinion anyway.
i would get her spayed . not because of any weight thing. but because you will have two male dogs with her. if they are unaltered, you will have major problems trying to keep them seperated during her heat cycle. they can get very destructive when trying to get at a female in heat. one would be bad enough, but two would be a real hassle. male dogs will climb over, dig under, tear down and even go right through any barriers you put up to seperate them. for your own piece of mind and trinitys too i would get her spayed before its too late.
Yep, it would be easier and less expensive to spay one female than neuter two males.. Those males will fight each other too, not caring if they once like each other before.
The 2 males are fixed but they still kind of fight over her. Dusty I never said I wasn't getting her fixed I asked if I should change her diet after I get her fixed.
A couple of days ago I read a study about early spay and neuter. According to the study, spaying or neutering a dog at any age did not adversely affect the dog's weight. If I can find the link, I'll post it.
