I went to the vet's office today to pick up some dog food and heartworm med for my doggies. When I got in the building all I could hear was this HOWLING, coming from the back room. I kind of joked about it with the lady at the desk, saying he sounded so pitiful and she said he'd just woken up from the anaesthesia from having been neutered today. I asked her what kind he is and she said pit bull. She's like "I know we've got an ordinance with them in town, but we neutered him anyway. We're not even supposed to do care on them if they come in." which I think is horrible.
So, since I've never seen a pit bull in real life, I asked her if she'd let me back there to see him. She said OK and we went back in there. As we're walking back, she's telling me how his howling is making "the little one" howl too. So I get in there and I see this HUGE, prolly 75lb pitty in the bottom cage, just a yowling away. Poor doggie, so I pet him a little. Then I looked in the cage right above his and saw this cute little doggie. Sherry said someone that works at the grocery store found him in the garage of the store yesterday and brought her in. She's just the cutest damn thing you ever did see!! She's white with light liver colored spots and it looks like she's got a big scar on her head from some kind of trauma. I petted her thru the cage and she just licked me and was sooo scared!! I thought she was a chi at first then I saw her tail and realized she's a toy rat terrier, I think. She was just darling!!
I told Sherry that if no one claims her (they put an ad in the paper, and on the radio) then I'll take her and find her a good home. If I don't put an ad in the paper, I'll take her to a no-kill shelter and see if I could foster her while Brad's gone. I told Sherry that's what I'd do, so she said she'd tell the doc that I'm interested in taking her and finding her a good home, if they don't find the owners. I'm such a softy!! She's just so precious, I couldn't help it!! I'd even foot the bill to have her spayed, if she needed it to go to a shelter!! and I'd have her tested and put on heartworm prevention!! She's just soooo darling!! AWWWWW!!! If I do get her, I'll post pics up of her, maybe Huntersmom will want her!!
I don't have her, but they didn't know if they had a previous arrangement with the Humane Society or something like that. I don't want her to go there, the HS near me is REALLY nasty!! That's where I got Lexie from and I was soooo glad to get her out of that sh*t hole!! It stunk like urine really bad and it was hot and very humid in there!! YUCKY!!
Ew. I don't understand how some shelters can be like that. There is a really gross one in my state too. Last time I was there they were using paint thinner to take the paint off the walls of the cages so they could re-paint and I literally could only stand it in there for like a minute. I started getting all dizzy and headachey...I could only imagine how all the dogs were feeling :(

the local shelter here is always very clean. very loving employees too. i think that makes a huge difference in how the animals are cared for. i just have a hard time going there. its heartbreaking to see the animals in cages. most of the cats look so sad and scared. and the dogs are at the doors of the cages vying for attention. its too hard for me. i always leave in tears because i cant take them home.
