All is well here...Marley is a dream and she and Kula are having a great time together!
I have a question:
I noticed a little bit of dandruff looking flaking on her when she first came home, and she seems to shed only whenever she's a little stressed (like when she got off the plane, when I took her to the vet). She was eating Eagle Pack Holistic at the breeder, and I've been switching her to Merrick. I add a little bit of olive oil to her food to help with her skin. I tried some Missing Link, but she seemed to have pretty loose stools with that, so I backed off, figuring I'd let her adjust to the new food first. Anyway, today I'm noticing much more flaking (I really hadn't seen much at all since that first day). She's never seemed to itch a lot, but today she's quite flaky on her back, near her hindquarters. Should I just keep up with what I'm already giving her? I'm not sure how long I should wait before expecting to see improvement...but I didn't figure that it would get worse either.
well i had the same problem with harvey ..we found out eventually it was an allergy/s but we havent discovered what sets him of yet..HArvey gets real itchy at times and come out in little bumps under the skin which dissapear after while with some benadryl. Has kula got any bumps under the hair..harveys got a smooth coat so its easier to see on him.
we also took harvey to the vets to have a skin scrape but it showed up nothing other than dry flaky skin.
mainly an intolerance to the food will bring on skin conditions..i tried harvey on a different food which gave him the runs ..i stopped feeding him it but it took a while for the effects of the intolerance to stop. such a runny poop and flaking skin etc.
I dont know what the ingredients of the food are which you are feeding kula ,,maybe you could see if it has any wheat/corn and gluten in it. If it does i would consider switching it as this could be the root of the problem. once we switched harvey the flakyness dissapeared has all nearly disapered itds just the other un-known allergy that can make it flare up again. Im getting the feeling it might be peanut butter that sets him off
