unwanted dog, what to do?

Yesterday while I was at work, one of my co workers took a break and went home, when she was home she found a dog running in the streets so she brought it back to work with her so it wouldnt get hit by a car. We scanned him for a micro chip and it turns out he is a client of ours, they got this dog in June. So we called the owners and left a message. I left work early yesterday so I didnt know what happened to this little guy. I felt so bad for him he was so scared. He really liked me and would come up and bury himself in my arms.

Well this morning Im looking at the dogs at the pound on their website and I see the little dog from yesterday! I couldnt believe it, i got so sad. Either the owners never called back and the pound picked him up or his owners came and got him and took him to the pound.

I really would love to go bail this little one out of jail, and find him a foster home or a forever home. Im hesitant about bringing a strange dog into the house, but i just feel so bad for this guy. He is super cute and I could see him being adopted pretty quickly, i just dont know anything about him. Im also scared if i dont bail him out, what if he doesnt get adopted and they put him to sleep?

If I hadnt spent any time with him yesterday I probly wouldnt want to bail him out so bad, but i did get some bonding time with this little guy. He is a Chi/jack russel mix,tri color, neutered, about 1 1/2 years old.Too cute!

So what should I do? What would you guys do?

I would get him out. If you have to, keep him seperated from all the other dogs until you see how they all react. That mix shouldn't be that hard to place.

Another option, that our shelter does, don't know if yours does, is you can be notified before that animal is going to be put to sleep. Our shelter calls it a Safety Net. That way he gets the chance to be adopted but you will be there in the event his time runs out before he does.

Bail him out and put him on our website.  We are not rediculously far from you.  You can send his picture in.  They have dogs like him find home often.  One of the people that works there has a chi-jack mix herself.

Thanks Puttin I will definitly do that, I cant bail him out for another 10 days though since he is micro chipped. It sucks cause I know the owners dont want him, poor little guy.

But im definitly gonna get him out of there!

Thanks agian!

i agree with puttin. bail him out if he doesnt get adopted or owner claimed. i dont see how people can just abandon their pets. i can only imagine how they treat their children and what kind of an example they are setting for them in doing that.

I'm also in favor of the bailing him out plan.  You may want to let the shelter know you plan to do so and give them your contact information.  Keep us updated on your progress, and of course, once you have the little fella, post some pics.
