Christmas Trees

Since it is so close to Christmas I figured I could do a poll. I enjoy my fake tree. I have a pre-lit one that comes together so easily.....So what do y'all prefer?

I have a 12ft fake one, that looks real. I love real trees too so we usually get a cheapie at Home Depot too for the family room. I just couldn't justify paying $250 for a 12ft tree every year. The tree cost me $900 but at least this is my 5th year using it.

I don't have children, but my nephews and niece rave over my tree every year. Just seeing their little eyes light up when they see it make all the hassle worth it. And trust me it's a lot of hassle decorating that bad boy!

Hubby always insisted on a real tree together with a little extra in it - each year around this time he'd start going out into the woods on a hunt for a no longer used bird nest which he would put in the tree every year.  Then in the spring he would put the nest back in a tree in the woods.

For the past 3 years I have had a 12 ft. artificial simply because it is so much easier but I have to say I do miss the real one.

I think this year I am going to buy one of those small potted real ones and hopefully I'll be able to use it for a few years.

We had real ones as kids but they were messy.  Hubby and i had a 5ft fake one for 7 years and last year we finally got a new fake one that is 10ft.  It is a prelit and sooooo easy to put up and take down.  It basically just unfolds.  I do miss the smell though but maybe we can get a pine smell to put on the fake one.

Having a sappy, prickly tree in my house does nothing for me, esp. if the dang thing is a dying creature.
The original use of them, at this time of year, was to provide a bon-fire for criminals and war captives, that were burned alive in stacked pine cages.
I can do w/o the perverted rituals of a dead society.

I always had a fake one growing up.  My mom bought it and we decorated it the first year.  After that she always wrapped the tree and stored it very carefully.  The next year all she had to do was get it out and stand it up.

I have always used a real one and let the kids decorate it.  Every year at Christmas Kaitlyn always makes ornaments for the tree.  Gillian is finally old enough to make some this year.  For me, my tree is the most wonderful thing I have ever seen.  For anyone else....well, not so good.  However, last year was the first year having Zoe.  I caught Zoe up in the middle of the tree hanging onto one of the branches about 3 times.  The tree eventually got to the point where it wouldn't hold her weight anymore and I would find quite a few branches laying around on the floor.  I don't know what I'm going to do this year.  I would like to put the tree in one of the rooms the dogs aren't allowed in because of Zoe but if I do that none of us get to enjoy it.  I'm very undecided.

Zoe I had to giggle at what your mom did. Because that is the same thing my aunt used to do about 20 years ago. She would just slide it into the spare bedroom.

I have always had real one. When I was young we used to go out into the wood behind the house and find the perfect tree. Of course always have dogs\puppies our trees always looked funny cause they were always naked from about 2 feet down. Now we have a huge couch that we set crooked in one of the corners of the house and set the tree behind it so the dogs and cat can't get to it.

I don't like fake tree's. I have a fake tree ONE year in a apt cause they would not allow real trees, I swear that was the worst christmas ever. I missed the smell of a real tree and the mess they make.

I remember someone from TP doing that as well. I can't remember who it was though. She said she'd decorated it, wrapped it in plastic wrap, and moved it all by herself because her hubby and kids wouldn't help her do it. Only when she did it, she busted a whole bunch of the ornaments because she had to move it down the steps and they fell off and broke. That was the most hilarious Christmas story I've ever heard!! But I did feel bad for her because her ornaments broke and because her hubby and kids wouldn't help her. Anyone remember that story from TP??

I prefer a fake tree, myself. I've actually never ever had a real one, so I guess I don't have anything to compare it to. My mom in law has one of those antique tin trees with the colored wheel spinning around below it. It's kinda neat.

I do remember the story Mollie.  I just don't remember who it was.  Maybe Wendy?  It sounds like one of her antics!

I like the live frosted trees. LOL so do my cats. We once got a live non frosted tree and the cats wouldn't go near it but when we get a frosted tree it so hard to keep they away from it. They don't climb it or eat it or anything they just love to sleep under neathe it.
