Deer hunting and food charities?

Just looking for opinions and whether this is a nation wide thing.

Ok a few years ago I was watching PBS and they had this program running on charities or something. And they were showing in N. Ga there was this drive of sorts where hunters could donate deer meat. And usually a local meat donates their services to process the meat and then its given to needy families. And I thought this was a really great idea.

So yesterday I was at my local meat market(shop). And they are also running this drive. Actually this is their second year doing this. And I just think its a great idea. What about everyone else?

I think its a great idea. I'm not too fond of deer meat but if its all I had to eat I would love it. But there are tons of deer here so I think that would be a good thing to do here. I think we are over populated with them here.

They do that where my grandfather lives. Every year he donates a large buck. He owns 301 acres and he can hunt when ever he likes (even though he only hunts during hunting season).

I love deer meat! Everytime he comes down he always bring some with him for us.

I think it is a good idea that they are helping but I can't stand hunting(no offense to you that do it) My family grew up hunting(I never went with nor did I EVER shoot anything)
I just can't do it and I can't eat it. I suppose if you were starving but the thought of killing an animal is not something I can ever do. I don't even eat meat that some of the neighboring farms will give to my husbands dad, sausage and hamburger. The thought of it will make me physically ill.

A friend of mine once made beef stew.  I ate it and thought it was okay.  It wasn't the best beef stew I'd ever had.  When we had finished eating she said it was deer meat.  I didn't like it near as much after I heard that.  I have no idea why.  I know its the same as eating a cow and blah, blah, blah, but it still upset me a bit for some reason.  I don't want to eat deer meat ever again.
It is a great idea to donate the deer meat to people who need it for food.  The deer is crazy here where I am but I have never heard of this.  I wonder who I could mention it too?
