babyshowers? For a 4TH child? I mean, I only had my daughter 3 1/2 years ago, but I was always taught that, etiquette wise, you were only suppose to have one babyshower. I heard it was okay to have more than one if you had say, a boy and then a few years later had a girl, or vice versa...or if you had a baby and didn't have another one for a considerable amount of time....But I got an invitation to a babyshower for a girl that I see maybe once a year that already has 3 kids. And all 3 of them are under 5. I guess I just don't see what someone would need if they already had 3 kids that young? Especially because she has two girls and a boy and the baby she is having is another girl. Maybe things are different since I have had kids, but I remember only having a shower with my son because when I had my daughter it was only 2 years later, so I still had a lot of that 'baby stuff' that you need. Maybe I'm being cranky, lol.

Lol, really? It's funny because it probably is totally normal. I guess that's why I was wondering. But in family it's not. People think it's weird to have more than one. Maybe I have a weird family, lol

Lol, I had a baby shower with both my girls. Although I had things from my first daughter, I didn't want Caitlyn to wear just hand me downs, I also wanted her to have new things. I really didn't care what people brought, it isn't about what you bring, it is just that you are there. Plus, it was just a fun celebration for me and my husbands family. (My family is whole other story!)
You don't have to bring anything like clothes or anything(although, they are always nice) just think about things that are used up with one child.....diapers, wipes, bottles, binkys (pacifiers), kits with the bulb syringe, thermometor, etc. , stuff like that. Let me tell you that I appreciated all that stuff alot when I needed it, it is stuff that in the excitement of pregnancy and baby, you forget you need.
ok, i dont have any kids, and dont know the first thing about...........well, i dont have any anyway, but im my opinion, each child entitles u to one free baby shower. get what u can girl!!! that is why they call it a shower, not a sprinkle!!! im not sure what my mom did, but if i were her, i woulda done it all three times.

i think it is normal to have a shower for each child. they are all different individuals. everyone i know has had a shower for each baby. i just went to my daughters third shower.
That's a good idea Katz, maybe if I go I will just bring a present that you typically 'run out of', like diapers or something. I have gotten mixed responses to this from different people so I have NO idea whats acceptable or not, lol. Some say it's tacky, and some say its just celebrating a new baby. I can see both points. I think the reason it seemed weird to me is because she is registered to a baby store for things I would think she would already have from having 3 kids. I'm not good at all this etiquette stuff, lol. If I brought diapers, even though it's not on her list, would that be okay?
Thanks for your input guys :)

My viewpoint is that diapers would be more than fine! Of course, I am from the old school that you don't ask for "specific" gifts and are thrilled with all that you receive. Gift registeries, in my opinion, are just suggestions of things they would like and for the interested giver to check to see if that particular gift has already been taken care of to eliminate some of the duplicate gifts.
I think baby showers for subsequent children are OK - as others have said there are many things that need to be replenished and it is always nice for the new baby to have some new outfits, etc. all their own.
I was in your same boat not long ago. One of my old friends had a baby shower and I went. Soon after her baby was born I let her borrow a bassinet...that she was supposed to give back. Well its been almost 4 years and I have never seen it..... Anyways she had another baby two years ago and sent me an invite. I didn't go because I only talk to her maybe once a year now..plus she never gave me back something I let her borrow. I have even mentioned the bassinet and everytime she has some excuse about where it is. No friend if you ask me.
Paige, I think some deeper things may be going on with me as well to not feel very inclined to attend the shower. Like you, I rarely see this person. The only time she calls me is if she wants me to watch her kids. We had set up this whole 'child swap' thing where we would watch each other's kids at no charge because we would be switching off. Well, I have watched her kids over 5 times and she has yet to watch mine. She makes an excuse everytime I have asked her. And still, every once in awhile I will hear from her asking me to watch her kids. So for the babyshower, it felt weird that I was being asked to buy something and come to something for someone I never see and only seems to talk to me when she wants something, lol. But of course, I would never take that out on the baby, so I will probably go because I do think the baby deserves it :)

I would go, but just take diapers. Sweetly ask when everyone is there, if you can see the bassinet she borrowed, because you miss it, and want to loan it to another friend. She sounds like a taker, not a giver. I cannot understand people like that, how they have the nerve to be how they are, but it may not be safe to let her watch your kids anyway. Decide what a good sitter's fee is and next time she hits you up for watching the kids, tell her "only if you have $20. for our pizza tonight", or something like that. Users won't spend a dime, or time for you, and they blow off fast if you are not cheap and easy...
