I have a cousin who is 14.  I bought her a sweater, a pair of codorouy pants, and a pair of earrings at Neiman Marcus.  Once Brittani hit the age of 11 I started buying her clothes.  It's too hard to pick out other things for girls that age.  I just always call her mom to find out her size.  You could also ask her mom which stores she likes that way you will have a better chance of picking out something she will like.  I don't do that.  I just be sure to get a gift receipt.  They don't have a Neimans where she lives so I ordered Brittani's on-line and when I send the gift I am going to enclose the shipping label in case it needs to be returned or exchanged.  I just wanted to give you all of the angles.  I hope it helps some!

Gift card to a store? Let them pick what they want?

Lol, sims is popular with MY age group! Hehe That game is way too addictive..hehe

At that age, clothes are nice but pre-teens and teens are SO picky, lol. The gift receipt thing that Zoe said is a good idea, then they can exchange it if they don't like it

You could also do a gift receipt to a movie theatre for like her and her friend. It's like 8 bucks to get in..so maybe do it for 25 so that they can get something at the concession stand? My uncle used to do that and I loved it because I was always going to the theatre with my friends

I would definitely say go for a gift card.  I know it seems kind of impersonal, but my 11 and 13 year olds absolutely LOVE to be able to go pick their own stuff.

Wal-Mart also has iTune gift cards if they download music at all.  They can use the cards to download music to their computer, and then burn it to a CD or put it on an iPod or mp3 player.

I also vote for gift cards. They have those new Visa gift cards that would be cool. Then they could chose any store that takes Visa...and thats a lot of places to chose from.

gift cards. at that age, they start to get real picky when it comes to gifts. especially clothes. with a gift card , they can pick out what they want. that way they only have themselves to gripe at if they end up with something they dont like ! lol

Well, due to the overwhelming response, it looks like that might be what we are going to be getting them. I like the Visa idea. I hate their mom(my brother in laws, ex wife) long story about that one. But we do not talk at all. I think we will see if we can get those cards. Thanks for all you help!
That will almost fininsh my christmas shopping(with the exception of stocking stuffers!)

Thanks!
