it was so weird and random, I let all the dogs outside lastnight before bed. Syd was by herself on one side of the yard by a small tree and some rose bushes. She was just walking around sniffing, when I heard her growl. But it wasnt her normal growl, it was her hurt growl, so i look over and she was licking her paw and limping. She wont put any weight on it. I brought her into the light to inspect her paw and there was nothing, but Syd wouldnt stop licking it and it seemed to bother her more and more as time passed. I didnt know what to do for her, i felt sooo bad. I knew she was in pain but i didnt know from what. I thought maybe she stepped on a thorn or something and it was just very painful, but then Im sure i would have seen blood or some sort of wound if she had stepped on a thorn.
I brought her into the bedroom to sleep and I had to carry her into bed, she couldnt put any weight on her foot, i thought for a second that maybe she broke a bone, but how?Anyways, she couldnt get comfortable and couldnt stop licking her paw and the side of her feet. Her paw/ankle felt a little warm, and even though she would let me touch it, it seemed very painfull. I kept an eye on her and when she stopped licking the paw and finally fell asleep I put the covers over her and tucked her into bed. This morning she is absolutly fine, no limping, no licking.
What could this have been? She wasnt playing, or running when she hurt her foot, just walking around calmly, sniffing.
It was just so weird, also any ideas on what i can do for her if this happens agian? I wish there was some sort of pill i could give her for the pain, i also almost gave her a benadryl but since i wasnt sure what was actually wrong i didnt want to give her something she may not have needed.
It just made me so sad since there was nothing i could do, and the look on her face showed how she was feeling and it was so sad, i just wanted to make her better.
Doesn't sound like much to worry about. Maybe she was stiff from playing or something, the day before, and she did not notice until she got put out to pee. Keep an eye out for swelling, on the leg she was favoring, just in case she got bit by something.
My grandparents dog did that once and it turned out that there was something stuck inbetween her pads in her paws. I looked and didn't see anything but then I went and got some proxide and pour it over the paws just to be on the safe side. Thats how I found it. It turned out to be a small piece of glass. My uncles dog also did that and all that was the matter with him was a pulled muscle.
Hmmm perhaps a pulled muscle or sting from a bee or something like that. Maybe even something poked her hard enough to hurt and have it be in a spot that can't be noticed. The pet stores sell dog asperin which I use on Sasha.
Consider it an easy fixed problem. I let Rufus out once and in he came with a track of blood following him. He had an ugly gash on his pad, and to this day we don't know what it was cut on.
Tigger pulled that same thing with me one night, it ended up he had a damn acorn stuck between his pads where it couldn't be seen but only felt. He acted like he broke his paw or something.
As i was reading what happened, my first thought was bit or stung.
Hayley and Milo were outside one day and when i went out to do something, i saw blood everywhere. I checked their feet and Hayley had flayed the skin between her pads on one side. It was nasty. She is fine now but has a bigger gap between those toes. Never knew how she did it.
